I was reading on howard that when verizon comes out with ptt and digital imaging, you can upgrade to new equipment that offers these features with rebates and stuff and just disregard when your contract runs out and just sign a new one. Is this true? If it is, is the vx-6000 the only camera phone coming out or will the t750 be out soon as well. Also, if i try and upgrade do i get 15 days to try the new services and if i am not satisfied go back to what i had previously?? Also, will verizons ptt be compatible with nextel, so someone who has nextel and someone who has verizon can speak to one another. I think these are the only questions i had. If anyone can clear these up i would aprreciate it.
It is possible VZ may offer some sort of deal to purchase PTT or MMS phones, but I very seriously doubt it will be given at the full promotional price. At most, I would expect some sort of trade in discount, for trading in your current phone, and I wouldn't expect the discount to be more than $50.00. If you did upgrade, you would have the 15 day return policy. That is given with any equipment purchases. Also, VZ's PTT will not be compatible with Nextel's, since VZ's will operate off of the 1X network. It may be possible to make them inter-operable in the future, but not when it first launches.
I have a T720 activated right now. So say that i did go in to upgrade if they offered anything they would make me trade my t720? Or would it be smarter of me to activate a different phone that I have like a kyo 2235 or vx10 and then go upgrade and trade one of them phones in? And is the vx6000 the only camera phone verizon will offer to start out with??
I wonder how Verizon's PTT will work. The A-530 is supposed to support it, but i see nothing about it in the Menu's or anything. SO i wonder if it will need a software upgrade to add the feature or whatnot. Just curious if anyone knows. I wonder if they could do the same with the T720..... if so I would Have at least a phone that would work with PTT without having to get one.
As for camera Phones, there will supposedly be an attachment comign out for the 720? or is that false? Also samsung is supposed to have the A-610 or something like that. Which will be a camera phone.
Yup, the Samsung a610 is the other camera phone, but the VX-6000 will definitely be out first. No telling if the a610 is coming anytime soon. Samsung a610
Not sure why some are so excited about PTT. I have it on Nextel and as annoying as it is for someone's phone to ring in a crowd, the dreaded "chirp" of a direct connect caller is worse. Plus, talking with someone "walkie-talkie" style is more irritating than a regular cellphone user when amongst others. In our office, after the novelty of direct-connect wore off, no one uses the feature except our boss, but that is another story no fit for this forum. Suliman
So does verizon take the current phone you have activated on your account for the rebate right when you upgrade?? What if I want to go back to it?? Or can I turn in another phone for the trade in discount? How does all that work?
I know that they will be coming out with software updates for their current phones, well, I know of the Moto V120E, and the V120C I believe. Maybe they will make it so the voice key on the V60i's/v60c's to be the PTT key..who knows. H.T.H --J.T
is that possible? To make the voice key on say a t720 compatible for use as a ptt function?? I figured it would be more of a hardware issue. If it were that easy why wouldnt the t720 be a nextel phone?? That would be awesome if it were that easy though. Also has anyone heard anything more on a t720 camera attaCchment and if so how much it will cost. I cant wait till all these new features come out.
I think it really all matters on hardware, but very importantly software. The software of the phone controls the function of the keys. And the 720 can't be a Nextel phone because its a CDMA phone, and Nextel uses the iDEN network, a making of their own. --J.T
Oh, i see. So it acyually could be possible to upgrade some current verizon phones to be compatible with ptt? That would be awesome, more people would prolly use the services if they didnt have to change much to do it. hopefully if they come out with a camera attachment it wont cost too much. Also, has anyone heard any of the stipulations if you want to upgrade to a camera phone or ptt phone. Like certain requirements, if any, you have to meet to be elgible??
Yes, I beleive that there will be updates for the current phones to allow for PTT, and possibly some camera attachments? --J.T
Yeah, Dr. NJ, that would be sweet. If I knew I wouldn't end up breaking the flip on it, I'd like to trade in my v120e for the v60i or the v60p....he11, even the 4400! --J.T
Yeah, and i believe i can fly. In order for the current phones to allow for PTT, they would have to be equipped perhaps with an external speaker because the current speaker in the lets say... t720, is not loud enough for a normal voice call, let alone a walkie talkie type of transaction. also,i dont think verizon wants to invest time for a software upgrade for the current phones.
Yeah, I doubt we'll see many "updates" available to make current phones PTT capable. You're all forgetting, one of the hardware requirements for PTT is a speakerphone.
Ok, Ok, I'm sorry I said anything . It's possible, that maybe a few phones WITH SPEAKERPHONE's, might be software updated, but also unlikely. Are you guys trying to gang up on me here or what? --J.T
Yes, we're all out to gang up on you. Hehe. It's possible that some updates may be available for existing phones, but not very likely. That only phone I've really heard of this being a possibility for is the a530, but that phone doesn't have a speaker phone, or one of those nifty buttons on the side, so I kinda doubt it.
Hahhah yeah, lets all gang up on me! hahah. Yeah, I figured, but I mean, the voice dial key, could be used as one of those "buttons on the side" . That's kinda where I was going with the whole "its possible" thing. Just a thought? --J.T
WOOOHOOOOOOOOO Cenobyte has reached his 1000th post! you are now a member of the 1k club!!! Here's your award! Spider Senses?
It is also possible that the Motorola 270C could be software updated to become a PTT phone. It has speaker phone and the buttons on the side. I still have mine and i LOVED that phone. I think wishfull thinking is as far as it will go but hopefully I could use my 270C as a PTT phone. Just an idea for any you who might have a 270C.
