Does this new list have anything to do with Verizon's new roaming agreements with SprintPCS? I am locked into a Regional plan with night and weekend minutes in the Detroit market, and I am wondering if I will get digital service in more areas from Sprint's network?
Does anyone know what is different about this new roaming list? What are the changes from the 50014 list?
oops. Forgive the double post. Verizon PRL 50017 and above include Sprint PCS as a roaming partner in most, if not all, of the U.S. You can roam on Sprint with a new PRL regardless of your current plan. The differences among new plans above 50017 determine the action of your roaming indicator, but the list is the same. See the list at: http://www.justalurker.com You won't necessarily get more digital service. Verizon analog and Alltel digital and analog have a higher priority than Sprint. But if you lose all signal from Verizon or Allnet (No Allnet in MI, right?) you could roam on Sprint, if there's service. PRL's of 42000-42003 also include Sprint. If you can't get the update from *228, you should be able to get it from a Verizon store. -BillRadio@ MountainWireless.com
on that site it has 50018 (ERI version) and 50017 (non-ERI) both for America's Choice. What's the difference between them? What does "ERI" stand for?
That is great. I heard that SprintPCS is doing major developement in northern Michigan this summer. Does anyone know if you will be able to use the wireless internet if you are roaming on Sprint's network with a Verizon phone? Thanks for the info on the roaming list.
On the (justalurker.com) list, will the phone prefer a priority 6 before a priority 7? If this is the case, I will no longer be using CenturyTel's anolog (01338) while in Cheboygan Mi, because I will be using RFB(Cellular One) CDMA digital (01337). This is how it was with the 50010 list. Also, I will be able to use SprintPCS's digital network all the way up to Houghton Lake. If this is the correct way to interpet the list, I WILL NEVER HAVE TO USE ANOLOG ANY MORE!!!!!!! I can't wait to try it out.
CDMA I don't know if you can use the wireless net on there network, all I can say is this summer I was digital roaming in toronto which whatever company it was, it was a 1900 mhz company, and I was able to access the net on my phone there.
Yes, the PRL is pretty straightforward. The priority is from top to bottom. Sprint is a higher priority than all carriers other than Verizon or Alltel, on PRL 50017 and higher. -Bill
I drove from the Detroit area to Northern Michigan Friday. I was using my Verizon phone with the new 50024 roaming list programmed into it. Right before I traveled out of the Verizon home service area around mile marker 185-190 on I-75, I made a call to see what would happen and who the call would be handed off to when I started roaming. The call was handed off to anolog roam with no problems. As soon as I ended the call, the phone searched and started roaming on SprintPCS's digital network. (luckely I am still on the older region plan so the handoff to anolog will not result in roaming charges, but for someone on the new America's Choice plan I believe it would). The Single Rate USA plans are still available for those who need tham anyway. As I traveled northward I watched the 5 bar signal strength indicator on my StarTac, and the signal was very strong most of the way up I-75. I made a few test calls to see if I was able to make calls on Sprint's network. No trouble, it worked great. I used my other phone to call my Verizon phone to see if I could receive incoming calls on Sprint's network, I did, and my CALLER ID WORKED. However, a couple of times something went wrong, I just got a long 20+ second delay to a fast busy signal even though I have voice mail. Maybe it was an issue with my other phone? I don't know? For the most part things worked great. I did leave myself a voice mail message to see if the VM. indicator would work while roaming on Sprint's network. It did not. The new SprintPCS coverage was pretty good all the way up to about the 255-260 mile marker, north of Houghton Lake, just like the coverage map shows. I continued north on I-75 and I was very happy to see that Verizon changed the prefered roaming carrier in N.E. Michigan back to CellularOne's mostly CDMA digital network. Maybe all of my complaints to Verizon did some good after all. I had digital coverage almost all of the way to my destination in Cheboygan County. No caller id there yet, but it is not even available to the local CellularOne subscribers. WAY TO GO VERIZON ROAMING DEPARTMENT, GOOD JOB! I AM HAPPY WITH THE CHANGES TO THE ROAMING LIST, AND WITH THE SERVICE WHILE ROAMING.
Looks like Verizon has done a good job in lower MI. I wish they would start working on UP MI and northern WI. Hman
