well Sprint already has PTT on CDMA and they've had it for a while........but theyre working on a new kind of PTT that is more client based instead of the PTT services that other companies offer that are server based and somewhat cumbersome.........

Yea I realize that, kinda old news. Only reason they are is because of Nextel issues they have. They can't keep the 2 networks going, it's not cost effective for them to do so. It's also not cost effective to have to give every nextel customer a brand new phone and get all the numbers/databases ( Sprint & nextel) merged to work correctly. The easier way it to make it client based ( ie the headset) like you mentioned. So in the long run they'll have all the original Nextel customers on the CDMA PTT network just by issuing/selling new phones that are client based and not server based which is a lot more work to merge or even maintain. All in all it gets the 2 companies with the exact same services on one network the simplest and cheapest way possible and no added benefit to the consumer besides having a new phone. So I agree with ya but not in the aspect of being way or somewhat ahead of the other carriers, and unless the other carriers jump on the band wagon with WiMax we'll see how far that truly goes in the long run. I'm not willing to guess on that just yet, to soon to tell IMO where that whole technology end up. Just like trying to guess on which style high def dvd is going to win in the battle of new technologies ( BluRay or HD-DVD).

well i side with you on this........not many people do......i think that when they got Nextel it should have been out the window........with the rebanding...........Nextel service was bound to go down the drain and there was nothing that could save it......sure the Nextel brand was big in the business community.......but Sprint needed to advertise the merger better so everyone knew that hey Nextel is goin bye bye.............but i think that they should have moved all the nextel customers over to the Sprint network from the beginning..............they delayed the whole QChat thing in the hopes that iDEN could be saved.......but keeping Nextel alive really is a money blackhole and it always will be......and they're saying that the iDEN network will be live through 2012...........between the money that they have spent on rebanding and the churn.........Nextel has just been getting worse and worse.......its all wasted effort.....................

    1. Merger with Nextel
    2. Move all customers to one billing system
    3. Develop and implement QChat (includes the Rev A upgrades)
    4. Revamp Sprint phone lineup so that all devices support QChat.
    5. move all iDEN subs to CDMA
    6. Develop WiMax

they shouldnt have added all these extra steps of making PowerSource phones.........sure rebanding is deadlined at June or July of '08........but Sprint has said that QChat should be live by next year.....correct???

they are just making it harder on themselves by keeping Nextel alive.....its a waste of time, money, and effort

I have a brochure from late August 2007 (when I joined VZW) that shows essentially the same maps, only in a more confusing way. Imagine more confusing than that one....

SmArTeStChIlD421; couldn't agree with your statement anymore. Total poor planning by corp and everyone who was involved during th merger. The problem is they better get a move on because I know numerous people that have just about had it with the Sprint/Nextel service out by me and are getting to the point of paying a termination fee just to leave to go to a service that works for them. My one buddy tells me it's like by the day service ( Nextel that is) seems to be getting worse in area that worked fine for ages. The funny thing is I teased all these people when it was announced they were merging that there service was going to go down. Oh well what are you going to do, besides leave it to upper management to mes things up in a case like this.

yeah but you see the thing is that the Nextel customers are having problems but the long time Sprint customers arent because the rebanding is just making the whole iDEN network bad.......they should have just moved everyone and dropped iDEN to begin with because they should have foreseen all the technical difficulties that would come along with the fact that the amount of airwave open to them just got really really small..........they say that iDEN and the Nextel brand still make them a lot of money but how can that be when rebanding has cost them more money than they could possible make off of the iDEN network

Lol...yea I find it hard to believe they are making money like that too. Heck if they were making so much money then why was Nextel looking for someone to buy them in the first place.

My guess is they weren't making enough money, not get enough new customer to keep up with maintaining or adding to the already old iDen network.

Actually, before Sprint acquired NEXTEL, NEXTEL was doing quite well. They had a lot of loyal, high spending customers. NEXTEL ARPU was the highest in the industry, which is not true anymore after Sprint acquired NEXTEL. Reason NEXTEL sold was because they knew their iDEN network was dying and now it's Sprint's problem.

you mean before Nextel rebanded.............immediate post merger Nextel was okay but it went bad after rebanding really commenced...........cuz that either restricts the amount of people who can talk on one tower at one time or it reduces the reliability, consistency, and quality of service

Nope, this doesn't have anything to do with rebranding, just with the fact that the iDEN technology was dying and is still dying.

if course everyone sort of realized that the iDEN technology was also really good for nothing better than phone calls and dispatch........the whole data part of it never took off.............except if those Harmony iDEN/WiMax handsets got on market

It seem things have veered way off track here....

Anyway, maybe Big Red will finally make a real coverage map available to go along with their new "open" policy. I certainly wouldn't hold my breath waiting for this to happen, but then again, miracles do occur.
