“Nationwide Plus Mexico” calling plan offers real value: no long distance charges plus the freedom to call from Mexico with no roaming charges

    05/04/2009

IRVINE, CA — At a time when consumers are looking to make ends meet, Verizon Wireless users can now call to and from Mexico and save money. “Nationwide Plus Mexico” subscribers enjoy these key benefits:

    • No Long Distance charges to any numbers in the U.S., Puerto Rico and Mexico, including mobile phones
    • 1000 Night & Weekend Minutes to use in the US and Mexico
    • Unlimited Mobile to Mobile Calling Minutes while in the U.S. only
The “Nationwide Plus Mexico” calling plan starts at $54.99 monthly access. Family Share plans for “Nationwide Plus Mexico” start at $84.99 monthly access for two lines of service. Activation fees, taxes & other charges apply.

These plans are also eligible for the company’s no-cost Friends & Family feature. With Friends & Family, subscribers can call up to 10 phone numbers — landline or wireless — at no additional cost, regardless of day or time. Consumers can change their Friends & Family phone number list daily. This feature requires an eligible plan and only applies when subscribers are calling in the U.S. to U.S. phone numbers.

No domestic roaming charges (only while in the US, right?)

I think there is some confusion out there about this plan... some people think it's like the old Verizon North American plans which had no roaming or long distance charges while in Mexico and the U.S. ( in TCPJ episode 153 they reported free long distance and roaming while in mexico) it looks like this plan only offers no long distance charges while calling Mexico FROM the US.

IMO, It's not that great... think about a family of four... they would be paying $104.99 a month for only 175 peak mins and 250 off peak mins per person per month w/ unlimited m2m.

I agree, it's not all that great. They might not charge roaming while calling from Mexico to the USA, but they will charge long distance.

I sorta like the way Sprint bills Mexico calls. They just charged me 99 cents/min while I was there. That included roaming and LD. Simple and easy.

I really liked that they didn't charge me at all when I used my phone in Jamaica. The calls were billed as M2M! hee hee.

It looked like something was missing when I read the PR, but thought I'd post it anyway.

Verizon should clarify exact details a little more thoroughly though...

I am wondering should I keep my NA Choice Plan rather than switch to Nationwide + Mexico?
My current plan only says Domestic Roam rate included, are you saying the new plan is only domestic, the OLD plan includes Mex roaming
Well, I'm confused, it looks like the same plan to me. When I ask at VZ, no one is familiar with the OLD plan.
The only difference I see is the termination is less than half your calls are from USA.
    What am I missing?
