FRIENDS & FAMILY WILL FOREVER CHANGE THE WAY CUSTOMERS VIEW THEIR VERIZON WIRELESS CALLING PLANS

New Feature Lets Customers Customize Plans to Include Numbers They Call Most

BASKING RIDGE, N.J. – Verizon Wireless today announced Friends & Family®, a new feature that gives customers total control over how they use their plan minutes. Beginning Sunday, Feb. 15, Verizon Wireless customers will be able to identify five or 10 numbers as a Friends & Family calling group. Minutes used when placing or receiving calls to anyone in the calling group will not count against customers’ plan minutes. Customers can even include landline numbers or wireless numbers of those who haven’t yet switched to the nation’s largest, most reliable network. Friends & Family gives customers a flexible way to control their wireless spending and still talk to those individuals who are most significant to them. Changes to the Friends & Family directory are quick, easy and free.

“This is a milestone in the industry,” said Mike Lanman, vice president and chief marketing officer for Verizon Wireless. “For the first time our customers can take control over their personal calling plans, build it to suit their needs yet still reap the benefits of being on the nation’s most reliable wireless network. And since there are no long distance charges, those numbers can be anywhere in the country. There is no charge to sign up and no charge, ever, to make changes to their Friends & Family calling directory.”

Customers wanting to take advantage of Friends & Family must have a Verizon Wireless Nationwide Single Line plan with 900 or more Anytime Minutes or a Nationwide Family SharePlan® with 1,400 or more Anytime Minutes. Customers on an eligible Nationwide Single Line plan, which starts at $59.99 monthly access, may select up to five numbers to add to their Friends & Family directory. Customers on an eligible Nationwide Family SharePlan, starting at $89.99 monthly access for the first two lines, may select up to 10 numbers for their Friends & Family directory to share among account users. Nationwide plans include Unlimited Night & Weekend minutes, no domestic roaming or long distance charges, and access to Mobile Web. Verizon Wireless customers also enjoy unlimited Mobile to Mobile calling with America’s largest calling family of more than 80 million customers.

Existing Verizon Wireless customers can visit www.verizonwireless.com/myverizon to sign up for My Verizon and check their eligibility for Friends & Family. Once a customer makes a change to his or her Friends & Family numbers, the new numbers will be effective the following day. Verizon Wireless expects to offer Friends & Family lines for business customers later this quarter. With this offering, business customers will have the convenience of managing their Friends & Family through the My Business online account management tool.

Oh my GOD....Hell has frozen over!!!

Considering how tight-fisted Verizon is, the eligibility minimum being the $59.99 900 minute plan for individuals, is OK with me. I knew, if they ever offered something like My Circle, they would never give away the farm with it.

So if I want this feature, I'll have to move up to the next plan up available to me. I can live with it because of the cost savings associated with unlimited calls to 5 contacts.

Good move, Verizon. It could be better, but it's a start. :D

I am glad to see VZW loosen up a bit. The starting point of 59.99 for singles is good because most singles get that plan anyway. However, the 89.99 starting point for family isn't that great. That is 1400 minutes. I believe there is a lot of people who really then wouldn't need this add on if they had 1400 minutes to use.

i'm sure that's why they did it, to get people to activate, move to a higher price point from the family plan $59.99... makes sense for them to do it this way.

Glad to see they are doing this , even if it is for the higher priced plans. It would have been nice if they included less numbers for a surcharge on the 700 minute plan, but most of us will take any bone that they will throw our way.

For now, since there is a transition from Alltel to Verizon,
I hope the prices for these "friends & Family" plan features will fall soon.

Either that, or these prices will remain because of "The Network."

But Wait, Alltel had the network too, ;)

This move makes me wander if internal alltel secret info had something to do with this decision. Alltel stated several times before selling to GS/TPG that My Circle wasn't costing them any extra because high-use customers were offset by other customers that increased their bill to get My Circle. Alltel then later added the 1/5/10/20 circles.

But this is still good to see fom Verizon and I'm really surprised. For a long-time Verizon customer, it's really just a free gift. Even though it's not included on lower priced plans, those people aren't losing anything. It also really puts pressure on At&t to offer some form of unlimited calling and Sprint to offer lower-priced unlimited plans or packages.

I'm very pleased Verizon decided to do this. I think the limits that you see with their Friends & Family plan are due, in large part, to "The Network." With that many people already in the MTM calling bucket 20 numbers, as you can get with Alltel's My Circle seems a bit excessive and most lower plans wouldn't need Friends and Family because they might have a lot of people that they call who are already Verizon customers.

It makes sense to find out who you call most often and try and get service with that company, if possible. I'm not suggesting anyone run out and sign up with a company they don't like for that reason but...

I know most of my family on the east cost has Verizon but the people I call the most, my immediate family are all on my T-Mobile family plan with me so they're free and, most of the time, I'm calling the out of town family on weekends or at night, anyway. I moved people over to T-MO to be with my plan so I could call them for free and I never jumped on T-Mobile's My Faves deal because the MTM was more important to me.

It just sort of depends on what you want but I know a lot of Alltel customers were freaking out because they thought Verizon was going to take away their My Circle. Now every Verizon customer can have it, if they want.
