Such "snooping" should get you fired. I understand at present the employees are on a paid leave. I guess the magnetism of Obama's personna was too much to resist and the definition of privacy and security weren't part of their ethics training. :loony:
who cares if someone just looks at obama or any other celebrity's account. It happens millions of times a year to every big name you can think of, in any industry...cell phone is the least worry some...how about banking, etc.... EDIT by AnthroMatt: DO NOT make this a thread about politics. This is news because the President-Elect of the United States had his records looked at, not because he is a Democrat. No celebrity will ever make a phone call as important as one a President-Elect might make.
Excuse me. I'm not making this about politics in the slightest. I merely stated a fact. Democrats used government computers to obtain info on "joe the plumber". You people need to quit being so sensitive at any mention of politics, it is ruining this forum. Speaking of which i need to update my avatar. I agree that it should be looked into to make sure nothing was malicious. And I understand why it's a relevant post to this thread. But side comments should not be completely erased by moderators when it was not attacking anyone at all.
Your statement had nothing to do with this thread. It sill has nothing to do with this thread. This thread is only appropriate in this forum because it has to do with cell phones. I could point out any number of facts at any time, but if they have nothing to do with the topic at hand, they are out of place.
So you should delete it then? People post irrelevant things to threads all the time but remains unchanged. I'm not going to continue to argue about this. It was and did have a place. I was merely implying it is very very likely that it was nothing but employee curiosity. Which my original post demonstrated.
In the best interest of maintaining a friendly atmosphere, I suggest that subsequent responses to the above be made via PM.... In the meantime, let's keep going with the main subject of this thread: I think the employees were trained on company ethics. Everyone that works in any institution that handles customer private records is informed about company privacy policies before they even start the job. So I think what happened here was that they forgot about that or maybe thought they could get away with it. That is unexcusable. Any such violation will get anyone fired even if you are the CEO, not because they looked at Barack's call records, but because it is a violation of the company policy. If they had looked at the records of 'Joe the plumber' they could get fired the same way.
Verizon, and all telecom providers need to take this issue very seriously and terminate all employees that snoop around looking for anybody's account information they're not authorized to see, whether it's Obama, McCain, Joe Six-Pack, or anybody else. Not long ago a number of hospital employees were terminated for "snooping" into Britney Spears medical records, so there's no question that this is a problem that multiple industries are trying to deal with. In the future for healthcare, telecommunications, and financial industries, there needs to be continual ethics and privacy training, along with strict monitoring and harsh enforcement of those employees who violate their duty and cannot respect confidential information.
Youre Fired! Verizon workers fired over Obama records breach Verizon Wireless has fired the workers tied to the breach of records for a cell phone used by Barack Obama, according to CNN. A source told CNN on Friday about the firings. The source wouldn't say how many people were involved. The workers had been placed on leave earlier this week during Verizon's internal investigation. "We now consider this matter closed," the source told CNN. The source told CNN that the employees weren't authorized to view customer records unless the customer requested it. The employees could not have read text messages or listened to voice mail, CNN reported. Verizon workers fired over Obama records breach | Wireless - CNET News
The snoopers have been fired Verizon fires workers over Obama cell phone records breach - CNN.com Verizon Wireless considers the "matter to be closed". The company has also launched a seperate, internal investigation to determine whether the info was divulged amongst other employees or with others beyond Verizon Wireless. I wonder what model flip phone the ex-senator was using at the time.
Re: The snoopers have been fired There would be a riot if the lower level peons accessed the BlackBerry accounts LOL... at least Verizon ruled that out repeatedly
