I was reading on alt.cellular.verizon that Verizon has acquired certain Dobson properties. This will mean that ATT will loss certain TDMA infrustructure seeing as Verizon announced its intent to convert those properties to CDMA. Does anyone have any insight on how this will affect ATT's ability to deliver service in the affected markets? Will ATT's deployment of GSM negate this concern? Will Batman escape the cold grip of the Ice Man? (Opps, my slip.) The article: http://news.verizonwireless.com/proactive/newsroom/release.vtml?id=64714 -Kev
Neat article. Im a CellularOne(Dobson) customer here in Central WIsconsin(54401) any word if any that Verizon is going to accuqire this area as well. CellularOne just isnt doing much here for better coverage area, coverage is everything to me. CellularoNe just sucks but has some areas I like which arent much.
The only remap I know of is in Arizona, and Kevin according to what an agent was telling me from Phoenix is that any Dobson properties that AT&T had ties to, We have all assumed that Verizon Wireless would kind of go with a 50/50 split. Have AT&T pay roaming agreements and Verizon Wireless would keep up some of the ready to go GSM markets. Of course there is no backing by me posting this but it could happen I suppose.
Cellular One (Dobson) in WI, MN, and UP MI is a "joint venture" with AT&T. I think AT&T owns a 20% stake in the network. I don't think they will be selling off to Verizon Wireless. Hman
So, do you think Dobson(CellularOne) with joint venture with At& T think there be more coverage, or not really in Wi, MN, UP Michigan? It would be nice if they could be more towers up and better SMS services available. Only have email, and text. Just a consered customer of CellularOne(Dobson).
I don't think, I know the Dobson properties in WI, MN, and UP MI are a joint venture with AT&T. Look at Dobson's web site. My parents both have Cell One Dobson in N WI and the coverage is great. Another plus: Dobson is the only ALL DIGITAL carrier up there. Cellcom only has CDMA digital in Wausau, Green Bay, Fox Cities, Stevens Point, and Iron Mountain. My parents SMS also works fine with Dobson. They can SMS phone to phone, phone to computer, and computer to phone. SMS also has worked when they roam on AT & T's network. Hman
I want more than just email, text. Look at europe how far they are then us. When we had analog they alreay had Digital SMS service. When we got Digital thay already go brosse the internet on there phone. And now we somewhat have that now Euope can go about as fast as a cable modem on there phone and we arent even close we are alwasy 3-4 steps behind. I like to have all the cool features. When Im trying to dial someone its takes 3x or even 4x to get though any time of the day, and that just burns my pot. I pay for service and gaet even get though most of the time. Cant even go 18 south without raoming i hate that or going to GreenBay your roaming. North, and west are great but they have to get better coverage East and south. Dobson(CellularOne) has to get better service for there customers. Most inportant to me is coverage and they just have it. To dam busy flying there big airplanes instead of getting down to business and that is taking care of the customers first.
Cell One also offers WAP internet service, but you will need a WAP phone to use the service. Wausau is right on the border of Cell One's coverage area, so when you goto Stevens Point you will be roaming, most likely on US Cellular. US Cellular is TDMA digital so you should get digital service in Stevens Point. If you want the latest cutting edge wireless technology you should consider moving to a bigger city or to Europe. Your lucky to even have digital service in the Wausau area. Hman
If At&t only owns 20% of the dobson properties, which as far as I know, and ive looked pretty far into it, they have no ownership whatsoever. But lets say they do, Verizon still has the right to pretty much do anything that they want with the properties because they have majority ownership.
Well MCFO4581, you did not look hard enough!! goto www.dobson.net About Us > Coverage Maps ATT Joint Venture areas are in "PINK". Hman
