Does anybody know or have any information on when Verizon will ever update their coverage map and make it into a street-level coverage map?
Verizon updates their coverage maps quarterly. As to when, and if, they will ever have a street level coverage map is anyone's guess. I personally think a street level map may be beneficial, but as we've seen in discussions about other carriers, those maps can be more misleading than helpful, if you trust them 100%. For example, T-Mobile's map in my area understates their coverage, whereas Cingular greatly overstates their coverage(my house barely has any Cingular coverage and calls are garbled and dropped constantly, and I'm in a BEST area)...
Yeah, I know, I've seen both of their street-level maps! It would be just helpful even to see whereabouts a tower is in relative location to where I'm going or where I'm at. Cuz right now it shows coverage in places that don't really have coverage or it is very limited.
I agree- even though generally, the map is quite good in giving you a general idea of where coverage is, but it's by no means perfect. I have not seen a perfect street level map either, though. They are either understated or overstated, so I'm not sure where the purpose of that lies. Cingular basically painted most of my city in BEST, even though there are plenty of not so "best" areas, and this makes it very hard to determine cell site locations. T-Mobile's maps make it very easy to determine their cell site locations, because their maps, at least here, are understated.
Due to other members' comments, and my personal opinion and experiences, most if not all cellular company's coverage is "guesswork."
you would think that with all of the money they spend to send people out in vans to test the cell coverage and they gather all of this data and then thay dont do a street level map honestly it probably is a lot better to understate your coverage than overstate it IMHO
VZW should ask T-Mobile on how to Make Street Level Coverage Maps. Get some tips from them, since its been about 5 years Now that T-Mobile has Detailed Coverage Maps. VZW is the Only National Carrier without One.
like i said.........they show on all of their commercials...........and they publish on their website...........that they allocate a major amount of their budget into having people driving around with equipment that tests the signal of VZW in different areas............this is all recorded onto a laptop that they keep with them in the vehicle and then when they get back to VZW its all dumped into their servers..........with all the data that they say they are gettin............you would think they would have a pretty accurate street level map by now
If I'm To Rate Street Coverage Maps Accuracy: 1. T-Mobile 2. Sprint/Nextel 3. Cingular Can't Rate VZW, they Don't Have One.
T-Mobile's is pretty accurate but i have to say that it is very modest and may push people away from them when they could have really good coverage.........but yes T-Mobile's is also almost always the most current I find Sprint's to be very accurate but they take a very long time to update their maps and when they do.........it is a serious map update i really think that Cingular should invest in the whole traveling and recording signal data that other companies employ...........some have been reading about signal testing equipment being put into the trunk of NYC cabs........something like that but a little more nationwide
If you were to rate the Carriers on coverage and customer satisfaction you can probably print your list in reverse order with Verizon included.
what a coincidence.............the worse the coverage.........the better the coverage maps.........prolli cuz there isnt as much coverage to program into the map
If you compare T-Mobile in the Metro Areas w/ Sprint there are many Places where T-Mobile has more coverage. VZW coverage Map is the easiest to do, they did'nt do anything.
I don't know if they will Never have one, they may have to once some States require them to show more accurate coverage on their sites, I am actually suprised they haven't with the other carriers having them available. Maybe because they have the most reliable network, they don't need the maps? I personally think it's a good idea that the carriers have them & do wish Cingular would make theirs more accurate like T-Mobile, maybe 1 day they will.
cellular telephony.......it isnt a religion........cell phone companies can't just say........."pick up all of your expensive gadgets and follow me".......people in today's society need cold hard facts
I must be abnormal here, I just want to know whether the phone will work in a general area. I'd love to have street level maps, but I wouldn't cry if VZW didn't publish street level maps. I just noticed that VZW updated the maps
well for us cell techies........we like to see that companies progres........some customers like to do that too...........they like to see that their company is making steps forward
I like to see the progress also... and I've noticed the progress in my region made by Verizon Wireless
VZW is Hiding something that they don't have Street Level Maps, even in their Cell Site PR, it would say that it's in Alabama. Otherwise VZW would learn from T-Mobile on how to Make Street Level Coverage Maps.
Verizon Wireless does make street level maps The problem is they are not public, they are somewhat restricted internal. So only certain VZW employees get to see the street level maps.
i dont know why a company would want to hide something that would actually reassure customers that they have astrong network........what do they have to hide............cuz they do have a very good network..........you would think they would be showing off every nook and cranny
And T Mobile would learn from Verizon how to make street level coverage. Other than generalization can you knock the forum over with facts and tell us what exactly are they hiding?
VZW Ads likes to Bash other Carriers that their Network are Horrible. VZW Don't even Know How to Make Street Level Coverage Maps.
Other carriers are not mentioned in Verizon ads. They all do the same thing anyway. "Raising the bar", "most powerful network," blah blah blah. Come on. Try posting a fact. It won't hurt.
Yes, Verizon does now how to make street level coverage maps, but unlike some other carriers, they are only used by employees internally and not shared with the public. Where does Verizon bash other carriers in their ads more than other carriers bash Verizon??? Where's your proof?? The closest to bashing that I can think of is ALLTEL's MyCircle ads and Sprint's Data commercial: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2-FXtG61hyw
A proposed law in Massachusetts would require the mobile companies to provide street-level coverage maps. The same law also proposes to mandate one-year agreements and a 30-day trial period (as opposed to the current 14 days).
Hope that Law goes thru. Instead of VZW making Ads Bashing other Carriers VZW should make Street Level Maps based on T-Mob Maps. VZW bashing Ads are Not Nice. By Not Showing Maps VZW is Hiding Something.
