Third year with AT&T is almost over. Won't renew. Need to try someone else.

Travel mainly the eastern third of PA. Bordered by Maryland, Delaware, New Jersey, and New York.

Actual coverage, and quality is the #1, and #2 concerns. Not the cost.

Appreciate the comments from: Actual users; Those who switched and found things better; and if any...Those who switched and wished they hadn't.

    Thank you.

As far as NYC and Northern Jersey is concerened, Verizon wins. According to my friends at UPEN Verizon is there choice as well. Hope that helps.

i've used both nextel and verizon...i can't speak for maryland and delaware...because i don't travel there...but i can speak for east pa, nj, and ny....in my opinion if your looking for a walkie talkie feature go with nextel...if this feture is not important to you or you don't have a need for it go with verizon...verizon beats netel in terms of coverage...the holes i've found for nextel are in north jersey as well as some parts of south jersey...and some parts of pa...keep in mind these holes are not like hole in populated areas..its more like when you gett off the highway(parkway/pa turnpike) thats when i have noticed the holes..so if you stay mostly on highways and in populated areas and like walkie talkie get nextel...if you want just really reliable coverage and decent phones for cheap get verizon...

I would agree with Codepyro on the walkie-talkie feature being the biggest decision between the two and coverage off of the highway. Also remember, to get a better price on Verizon, you have to sign a 2 year agreement for most things, Nextel is only a 1 year for all contracts. Then again, price is not an issue for you so either way. Verizon i would suggest the LG vx4400 or actually wait till early to mid June and get the LG vx6000 which looks great. Nextel, the phones all are pretty much the same, just that the speaker is better on the i90c and i95cl along with the i95cl being color and having a bigger , easier to view display (except outside during the daytime).

"to get better price" let me clarify this and your phone options...
the difference between the one and the 2 year contract is about 35 dollars...which is basically activation and you sometimes get an additional 20 dollars off the phoine...the service plans remain the same for one or 2 year..for nextel..the i90c runs for about 150 after a 50 Mail in reabte..the i95 for about 250 after the rebate..for verizon the v60i(highly recommended if you don't want color and want great reception) runs for about 99 from radio shack after reabte...the a530(newest color phone which i would avoid because it doesn't have analog) for about 150 after rebate...the lg vx 4400 for about 99 after rebate(this phone is highly recommended) and the t720 for about (79.99) after rabate...and then there are all the other phones which are cheaper...

Look. If you are happy with AT&T then stay. If not, go with Verizon. I have personally used all the providers and from PERSONAL expirence i can tell ypu that Nextel has the worst coverage. Verizon and AT&T have the best. I choose Verizon because the coverage is a bit better and they have better technology (CDMA).

In Delaware Verizon is great, though so is Nextel! MD and PA, Verizon wins IMO. Overall, I think Verizon is a better deal right now.
    Verizon:
Better coverage with a better sounding technology
    Cheaper phones/more selection
Better plans 400/unlim/1000 mobile to mobile 40$

    Nextel:
    Great data plans
    walkie talkie

Both seem to be good, but I think Verizon is the best value right now.

AT & T IMHO stands for Americas Terrible Telephone.

Have gone thru so many billing, reception, reception, reception, and hardware problems, .....I'm done.
Third year renewal,....they bought me. Gave me so much credit, 'free phone', and extra 'prime air time', I had to try them, again.
    Fooled myself.

Sorry to be confusing about my main area.
I stay within the PA borders, now. So the eastern third of PA is my sales area.
A good clear phone conversation is important to business.
    Phones are 'tools to me'
Especially since I pay for everything as an Independent.

Any comments on phones?? Good-better- best???
Using mainly the v60i. Have the 'pro' (so they call it) hands free car kit.

    Also external antennas. Any recommendations?

    Again, Thank You.

unfortunatly from what i have heard the metal casing on the v60 tends to "reflect" the rf signal (please correct me if ive heard wrong) try a different "plastic"phone like maybe the nokia 7210. just a thought.

I too am searching. My Cingular / ATT 3360 sound like total crap to me now. Epecially when on the ATT network which it is much of time.
I'm thinking VZN or T mobile Now, Nextel has come up.
I don't think any of them sound "great" all of the time. I am not familiar with T mob sound, but I now VZN and Nextel can both be great or pretty bad. Why does it vary like this ?

But, I'm with you. The phone/handset (which seems to make a diff.) is a "tool"
    I want 1) good sound 2)respectable coverage.

Well if ATT didn't work for you then Verizon is probably a safer bet. If you can when you get your knew phone you should test it extensively. AKA start a call in your house, go all around your house, your office, the commute in between, the areas you frequent the most. Use the trial period to figure out if the service is what you need. If you go with Verizon the best reception phones include the V60i from Motorola and the 9500 fro Audiovox.

V60i seem to have been discontinued, and no longer available at the company VZN stores. I'm sure they're out there though from a "re-seller", or independent wireless merchant.

independent i suggest you get the v60i simply because all your motorola stuff what you already have such as the car kit will work with the verizon v60i....its going to be a bit tough finsing the phone usually radioshack and other reseller have them...

    Nextel=bad
    Verizon=good

I've had both and once you get bored with the walkie-talkie (it's soooo lame), there is no reason to pick Nextel over Verizon, or most other carriers for that matter.
