Thinking about switching to Cingular after many yrs. with Verizon. Like the flip over minutes, etc. However concerned about coverage difference. Anyone know how Cingular/ATT does in Mich areas compared to Verizon? Thanks...bigrin
Stick with VZW, I made a trip to Concordia Ann Arbor with school. Verizon's coverage was much better, and I was using all my data featrures (Ok, eating them up) because I was so bored. PPL with cingular were saying that they were dropping calls, and I had a full set of bars. Though, this is only one spot.
Gonz: thanks for the info. Have an LG 6000 camera phone now, about 2 yrs old and am ready for new exchange if I stay with Verizon, any recommendations? Don't really need video, but do need a loud ringer, and hard vibration and blue tooth would be nice. thanks... cr
Check out some of the newer Motorolas like the V710 or the E815, definitely improvements over your VX6000.
I used Cingular in A squared about 4 years ago...on the TDMA/analog network. It worked fine in AA and around parts of the town and Ypsi. Also out to the Sagatuck area of western michigan. Why not try a free 30 day trial with Cing before you relock into a 2 year contract with verizon?
Thanks Viewfly: may do that, friend of mine just hooked up with Cingular and rec'd a great Motorola phone (bluetooth and all) but the vibration mode is not as intense and its not as loud as my lg. Not sure what to do. cr
Cingular Has Automatic DROP-CALL CREDIT in their Billing, so they don't Get Billed for drop calls. I don't think others Carriers Do this.
With T-Mobile they give you credit for the Next Month, when you call them. But they won't remove it from that month's Bill, so if you go over your Minutes, you have to pay it.
My girlfriend lived in Ypsilanti (& worked in Ann Arbor) until last month. She had Cingular, I had Verizon. We both had great coverage in Ypsi and Ann Arbor, though it seemed like this spring, she had been getting a lot more dropped calls once she switched to a GSM phone. This would be just sitting at home, talking on the phone with 4-5 bars -- all of a sudden, poof, call ended. She previously had a moto v60 on the TDMA network there and her service had been rock solid, aside from a few dead spots between AA and Ypsi. She also had an AT&T GSM Blackberry, with excellent coverage throughout the AA area.
Thanks Elwood: I think I'll stick with Verizon, sounds like Cingular is a bit shaky from the posts. 2 yr. agreement is up in a month, would like to get the new motorola blue tooth job, but really don't want to sign another agreement if possible. What a trip. cr
No problems whatsoever with Cingular (GSM, V400, and before that a T720) anywhere in or near A2, including basement locations. Verizon coverage is similarly decent, although I think my Cingular plan beats anything Verizon is offering right now.
