I got a call yesterday asking if I had heard anything regarding Verizon buying US Cellular, which I haven't, has anyone in the forum heard anything about it, or is it just speculation/rumor? Thanks
Thats a new one...there's speculation about verizon buying alltel, verizon buying out vodaphones share in VZW and rumors going around about alltel buying out uscc. I would take it as a rumor until we hear it from the horses mouth...although it is fun to think of the possibilities

What I see happing is this. Verizon Communications (wireline) selling some of its phones lines to TDS telecom in the midwest. VZW buying most of TDS interest in US Cellular (TDS keeping some vested interest). I think VZW is looking for a CEO and John Rooney would be a good choice The Divestments are not as high if VZW would buy US Cellular. They could still do divestment swap deal with Alltel (or whoever is going to buy them) and endup better off in the end. Will this happen I don't know. I do feel VZW is more likely to buy US Cellular than Alltel. Divestments would likely be in crossover networks in TN, IA, CA, NH, WA
Can VZW handle all these Companies it is Buying out like Vodafone, alltel and now US Cellular? :loony: There will be a Bidding War w/ T-Mobile for Alltel. http://investing.reuters.co.uk/news...0_DEUTSCHETELEKOM-RESULTS-STRATEGY-URGENT.XML
Verizon isn't buying out Vodafone, they would like to but I don't think they plan on paying Vodafone the $50 Billion they were talking about & Vodafone is happy right now with Verizon. (unless the money is right) As for Verizon buying Alltel, this is speculation as well & until something is mentioned in an official news release, it's just a rumor & can't be considered valid. So, if Verizon was looking at US Cellular, it wouldn't be an issue for them at least right now.
As of early March 07 VZW buying anybody out or in a bidding war to buy a wireless company at this point is 100% speculation. Last company VZW has bought was West Virginia Wireless. Alltel is looking for somebody to buy them and many people in the press think VZW would be a possible sutior. The same goes with US Cellular, but I have not heard that much about this in the news.
My thoughts as well, AgentHibby. The person who asked the original question has VZW for a carrier in southeastern North Carolina; she had heard something about it and was wondering if I had heard anything (based on my previous association with FCC). The short answer was no, as often times, stuff like this can't be discussed outside of the FCC by virtue of proprietary stipulations and legal issues, ergo my search on this forum. Seems as though oftentimes, there's the smoke/fire thing, but it doesn't pass the smell test at this point.

thats interesting T-Mobiles snooping about if Verizon were to buy anything it would prolli be USCC but the smart choice is to get the other 40% of itself from Vodafone then worry about mergers
If it were me and my money (which it’s not), I’d buy them all, and then dump the non-profit makers. That’s probably why they’re in business and I’m not!
get this within the last month in my home town of Rindge NH verizon stopped using the us cellular towers in town and everyone on verizon lost there signal.... when any of my family called verizon about it they were told to switch networks free of any penalty....... why would verizon do that?
Verizon bought the Unicel Network, and probably took US Cellular out of the PRL in overlapping zones. FYI, this thread is over 2 years old.
