Here is a brief list of some of the new features of upcoming Verizon phones. For everyone who thought the red UI was it, Verizon is changing.

Not all phones will support all these features, but some will jump up at you as very un-Verizon like.

    Bluetooth 1.2 support
    A2DP for bluetooth
    Concurrent bluetooth connections
    Hands Free Profile 1.5
    Allow content movement OBEX
    Bluetooth remote control profile

    Firmware over the air

    Phonebook changes

Ringer and media have distinct volume control

UI changes, menu choices being moved

Now, if they copuld just do this accross the board with ALL the phones. Current and upcoming.
I realize that they'd have to flash the current phones to allow all of these thiungs.

    One can only hope

they should have just done this from the begining. i mean seriously. the other companies allow it ! seriously if their reception wasnt so good they would have been out of business a long time ago. they pi$$ me off to no end but i cant leave cause they are the only ones with reception in my house.

I wonder if they will update older phones like the A950.

Any idea what phones will be able to use this new firmware update? I am almost out of my contract now and plan on using my NE2 soon to get a new handset. I wasn't too hung up on getting something with Bluetooth before since it was crippled, but if they are going to unlock it I will choose my new phone more carefully!

These new features will only apply to phones coming out later this summer and beyond. So the next V3 won't have all these features but the "V3" like device released after that may. The ability to move content is of course not as simple as it sounds and relies on a missing piece not explained here.

    Bonoriffic,
I come to this web-site once in a while. When I do, I look up your user name and look at your posts. As usual, you have the info that I'm interested in. Do you know if the phone after the improved v3 will be EVDO rev A? Are there any more Worldmode capable handsets (GSM/CDMA)?

    Bonoriffic,
As always thanks for your info. I posted a link over at hofo pointing to here. I hope it doesn't attract nitwits, with retarded comments. However, a lot of people over there are going to be very happy about your news...even if that don't believe it at first.

Probably not. They want you to buy a new phone and renew your contract.

    Isn't Nokia's UI a stardard? :headscrat

I will stay that Nokia's at this time is better, but that does not mean that this summer Verizon may make it better than Nokia.

Are you in a position to know about Verizon products 6 - 10 months away from release? If not, you wouldn't have heard anything about this.

The Verizon UI is not static. It is tweaked and changed. Verizon sets the requirements and details this to phone providers. The more recent revision of the UI changes many things, many minor and a few big. The thing is if Verizon makes a UI change today, it won't appear on a phone for several months at best given the long lead time needed by the phone company to implement and Verizon to test.

10 months from March 2006 (original post) would put us to approx Jan 2007. Sure hope the OBEX part of it will happen. Just bought a Verizon (Evil Empire) Razr V3m and it's disabled and impaired. NO OBEX. Hate the Verizon "Evil Empire" UI!!

Only reason I went to the "Evil Empire" was because of their native SoCal tele #s and I get a corp disc. I kept my 4 lines with Alltel (OBEX enabled) since they have not complained that 3 of my lines are roaming on Verizon "Evil Empire" in SoCal.

Any word on Verizon "Evil Empire" and OBEX. Or is it still hush hush?? Getting close to the 6-10 months window.. Maybe it'll be named Razr V3"BO"... or Krzr"BO"..No not Body Odor... "BO"=Bluetooth OBEX...

Does anyone know if the MOTORAZR MAXX will have any of the above mentioned features? Or is it still too early for that.
