I wish they'd do the same in Wisconsin.

If you think that is bad try I-80 in Wyoming its worse because there is no extended network it is pay roam with Union Cellular unless you have a local plan and you are then safe.

True, but my biggest beef is with the network in the city of Madison itself. The city itself has more areas on the extended network (which only provides limited service, rendering GetItNow useless, etc.) than it does on its own network, and there are several areas of the city that are complete holes with no coverage at all (even outside). I can understand that rural areas may have a few holes here and there, and it's cool that Verizon can use USCC out in those areas, but its own coverage should be much better in major cities.

I've increased my ranting as of late because I've traveled again recently and I've noticed that just about every other city I go to, Verizon's network is better than it is here. I know some of that has to do with the MHz thing, but it still stinks and makes my battery drain in 48 hours or less while I'm home. My wife's phone, if she leaves it on at work, drains in a matter of hours. Out in New York, it lasted for a whole week. Our Verizon phones here in Madison spend more time searching for a signal than actually having a signal, and that's pathetic.

All of the ranting in the world in this forum won't change a thing. Have you been ranting to the executives as well? Don't waste your time with the people at 611.

Being on Extended Network or Verizon has nothing to do with battery life! The only differnece in battery life is when you would be on an analog network. Otherwise it sounds like you need a new battery.

You do get more batter life on PCS than on Cellular like ~10-20 minutes more talk time depending on the phone. If the phone has to search more than normal for a signal that also can lower batter life more, but that much.
only time you should have poor battery life is when you are on analog extended network.

Turns out my battery drain is due to signal searching. To Verizon's credit, though, I did get through to one of their technicians after filing a trouble ticket, and we went over the coverage issues in this area. The bad news is that he seemed to indicate there weren't any upgrade plans for this part of Madison for the next year. Their build-out plans go off of number of trouble tickets filed. Well, given that US Cellular is what most people seem to have around here, unless my next-door neighbor who uses Verizon files a complaint, it may not be enough to show up on engineering's radar.

The technician was sympathetic to my claims, though, and as a worst-case scenario, he did offer that I can switch carriers without being penalized because my coverage at home is too poor. I may give it another month of thought and research carriers like Cingular more in-depth.

I understand that the areas that have the most complaints get the towers. Those call tester should know the PCS network is crap in WI for the most part!
That might explain Wyoming few people few complaints.
