Was wondering if you could point me in the right direction with Verizon wireless. I live within 1.5 miles of (2) Verizon cell towers; however, I cannot get more than 1-2 bars. I have a trouble ticket open with them and they told me they are going to send out a tech this week to see what is blocking the signals. My cell signal booster cannot even get enough to boost the signal. You would think I live in a canyon or something but I live in a flat part of town, go figure... Any hints at what to do or say to them?
Are you able to make and maintain calls with the one or two bars... or do they drop/garble? Most phones should have no problem with calls/data with 2 'bars' of strength. If VZW finds that nothing is wrong with the signal for calls/data, then I would try testing other phones or exchange the phone... I had issues with dropped calls and people not hearing me... I thought the network was the problem; when I got a different phone, all is well now.
Since Verizon uses 1900 MHz in your area there is greater chance finding weak areas. Are you indeed getting dropped calls or poor audio? I lived 1.1 miles from a Verizon 850 MHz site and never got more than 1 bar, but never got a dropped call. It turned out I was exactly half way between 2 sectors so the signal was often "switching", which made for some odd sounds during conversation, but never dropouts. Verizon is fairly serious about coming out and checking for bad spots, and then at least adding them to the list of things to fix someday. In my area, they did fix most problems, often with a new cell site, even if it took a couple years to do it.
Wow I am sorry you have to deal with 1900 like bill radio said they are somewhat good about coming to check on things.
Unfortunately living close to a cell phone tower doesn't mean it will help you. I live within a mile of at least one tower from each carrier but none of the towers have antennas aimed in my direction so I get zilch!
Update: Verizon called my today regarding my trouble ticket. I must say their customer service is pretty good as they followed up with me without escalation on my part. The problem it seems is NOT going to be addressed, unfortunately. They told me that although the coverage maps show my neighborhood as a "digital" coverage area... (see attached coverage map) it is not in reality a "digital" coverage area. Go figure! When pressed they indicated there would be no more Verizon towers build in my area and the the existing towers were not pointing in my direction and would NOT be modified. WOW! Then they went on to suggest they would let me out of my contract with no penalties. How nice. Nothing like a breach of contract to get their attention.. I am not sure if I will change but I probably will. What a great big pain! My calls are frequently garbled. (Palm Treo 700x and both my RAZR phones) and occasionally drop. I cannot get enough signal for my Air Card to give me enough bandwidth to access the internet with anything even close to a decent speed. What to do???? How can I be sure if I switch to another carrier if they coverage map will be "truthful"? Will I have to purchase another phone? Enquiring minds want to know. I suppose I will start my research. Wish me luck. -jb
johnbelcher, Best wishes on your search for service at home. The At&T Mobility coverage viewer is here. The Dallas market has 3G service available. COtech
What type of amplifier are you using ? There is no way a good one would not fix your problems as you have described them.
