Has anyone had any success in syncing data between the PC and a Samsung (Verizon) a890 handset? They don't supply data cable or software and you can't sync phonebooks or calendar entries with Outlook, can't transfer snapshots from the phone to the PC and (perish the thought!) can't put your own ringtones on the phone from the PC. There are USB to phone data cables, but without the right software, all you can use them for is charging the phone.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

Welcome to VZW, where the motto is, "...not if it's convenient, you don't." The data cable, while not supplied in the box (very few manufacturers do), should be readily available from VZW or online at eBay and the like. Once you have the data cable, you should be able to download software to do everything you want to do. But VZW's not going to give you everything for free (no carrier will). They want to make money on all the things you want to do with your phone - ringtones, PIX transfer, etc. That's just the way of things.

You can use your Samsung A890 as wireless modem to dial into private networks or to the internet using a USB data cable. You do not need any software. Data cable and instructions are available here:

    Samsung A890 Data Cable

However, If you need to sync your contacts with outlook or transfer pics, these features will require software. I have not seen support for the A890 with any of the leading cell phone software manufacturers. Hopefully it will be released soon.
