Are you saying if EVDO is working we can run *228 updates without fear?

Yes, thats correct. I and many others have run the *228 without data becoming broken. As for the EVDO, the ones who didnt apply the fix somtimes were gtting a non-evdo prl downloaded since the phone was acting like it was 1x only. However, some who didnt do the evdo fix STILL got the evdo prl...so Im sure it has something to do with where you live in relation to evdo etc. Again, Im sure there are more tech terms for all of this, but its how I interpret it. I have done *228 with no harm in both my home area and outside home area with no reprecussions. Yes my ev data works...but it is still able to be done, compared to the Alltel v3c upgrade where u couldnt do it at all. I still maintain however it is just as easy to do manually when im at my computer. I also just recommend people to do it manually if it concerns them as I cant test everyones phone ;)

Evdo isn't really a reality where I live but it works where I work. So I leave it turned off most of the time to save the bat.

As far as the PRLs go, where do you get them? Do you just overwrite them with Bitpim? I had planned on updating with my wife's krazr (since she will not let me flash her phone) :p and just use that. But if there is a good online resouce it takes a step out for me :-D

If u have an EVDO phone with the most up to date (*228 op 2) phone on Verizon, you can pull the PRL with PST. Chances are you should have pulled yours when doing all the backups before flashing. However, if not, they can be downloaded. It isnt phone specifical, technically. The most up to date EVDO prl is 50768, so I could pull that from my phone, and send it to you, and you could put it on your phone and it will be updated. It gets pulled, and written via PST. Let me know if you would like that PRL and I will post it for download.

CincyBall, back to the EVDO thing and PRL versions..

Could I just do a *228, 2 on my unflashed Vzw V3m and pull the PRL off that one with PST and write it to my Alltel flashed V3m?

    -aztech8r

PS) After copying the USB drive mma_ucp/dcp files, and doing the seem edit, power-cycle the phone, and going into Connection and changing the mode to USB Drive, what else do I have to do to make my pc or laptop recognize it? I changed the setting to USB Drive and they both keep recognizing it as the USB modem still...

Yes, absolutely. When u do it, just make sure it is the 50768 prl. But other than that, that is the way to do it.

As for the mass storage, once u switch it to USB Drive, it should automatically find it as a Qualcomm Mass Storage. Did u see it install that way? If not, you have your microSD card in the phone right? If u have the card in, and it installs as a Qualcomm mass storage (it will do it automatically, no drivers needed), and it doesnt show up in My Computer as a removeable disk, let me know...it might mean your network drive needs to be remapped.

    Ahhhh I don't have a microSD card yet! Oh-Duh!

That was pretty easy huh? :rasp:

PS) If Verizon is the only CDMA provider in my area, would it be just as safe to do *228, 2 on my Alltel flashed phone? (I noticed some people having problems, but when I followed Monster1 guide and used Drg0nz0's advice about phone number swap, I was able to do the *228, 1 process)

PSS) Doing the *228, 2 on the other phone, backing it up, and restoring it to the Alltel worked like a charm ;) I got my red EV back instead of 1x or D :)

Hrmm, I got the EV symbol back, but I am still getting errors on the Vzw homepage trying to view my balance/usage. After I enter my zip code to view either, it poops out and tells me to call *611, and reports error 991.

    Is that only under evdo?

I locked my data services once trying to get EVDO working, I had to do the ESN Swap to and fro.

I'm going to assume both, because prior to *just* now doing redoing the PRL I think EVDO wasn't working as my EV sybmol was missing. Now I have my EV symbol back, but I have the same browser behavior.

Anyone think maybe doing a #0setup* Browser Reset might resolve this?

Do you get the same broken behavior from GIN?

I think your data services got hosed.

Nope, GIN works great, and my IMs work. Now that I have EV symbol instead of 1x when I try Vcast it says to sign up for $10/mo or $3/day. Did I accidently figure out a way to get Vcast to work? I mean backing up the original Vcast files off the Vzw firmware. I've seen a couple places that said I shouldn't have been able to backup those Vcast files, but I was able to. So that let me use my own Vcast backups to restore after the Alltel flash. Is there the chance that I might have sound with Vcast because of this? I also saw a couple references to Vcast having no sound when the new version is downloaded through GIN.

Yes, when u get the message to sign up, that means your vcast is "working". I get to the same screen, but since i dont subscribe, I havent tried the $3 sign up yet. I might just to try, but havent yet. However, this doesnt mean your sound will work just yet. The main reason sound is gone is b/c Vcast bases their program on Verizon's firmware, which has the ability to play WMA format. However, now that we have Alltel f/w...it cannot play WMA...so technically Vcast is playing sound, but the phone doesnt accept the audio format, therefore no sound. If u dont mind spending $3, Id say give it a shot. But I think it ultimately comes to the same thing. So u didnt do the GIN download of Vcast?

Nope. I was able to fully back-up *all* of the Vcast files off my Vzw V3m Monster flashed phone (/a/bew/mod/12513 and 13478 *AND* the mif's). So I used my own Vcast backups to get Vcast back after flashing to Alltel, and did *not* go into GIN and download the new version.

PS) Dunno if you saw my PM, but, since flashing to Alltel, the smallest smart button on the side of the phone activates the camera when the lid is closed. I've since taken about 50 pics of the inside of my pocket. Can't figure out how to reprogram the smart buttons to fix this! Help!

Yea, i guess just try it out then and see if there is sound, and let us know.
As for the camera...I checked the seem edits, but it doesnt appear there is a way to disable the camera with phone shut...ill let u know if i find anything tho

The only thing I can think of is lockign buttons. THis was a big problem on my old cellphone. I had atleast 45 pictures of my pocket. It was embarrasing too, I'd be in a meeting, shift in my chair, and you'd hear a camera click :). I use the stupid leather bellt clip from VZW. So the only thing I end up doing sometimes is triggering the voice commands :).

Sub'd to Vcast daily for $3 today. So far, it kinda works. No sound, and when I choose a channel to watch it automatically picks the first show instead of letting me scroll through the shows for that channel.

So it looks like Vcast is a bust even if I did accidentally figure out how to fully backup the Vzw Vcast files.

Welcome to WA. This is the Motorola RAZR forum. Try looking around for the LG forum, and ask there. I have never used an LG phone. If it is possible, I wouldnt know how. Good luck! :)

Anyone find anything out about my browser issue?

I have literally everything else working now, including VZNav, and soundless Vcast. Vzw homepage loads, and when I choose to view my usage or balance or anything then it asks for zipcode, then it errors out and says call *611, error code 991.

Sorry to keep bugging you guys! ;)

Not sure about the browser prob, but I will check around. Also, there supposedly is a fix for vcast audio as well! I havent tried it yet, but here is the post.

Hmm, I saw that post too. But I am pretty sure I saw a post by Mark V. that said the reason there is no sound in Vcast on the Alltel firmware was because that firmware doesn't have the WMA codec.

Someone confirmed for me on the Vivo thread at HoFo that WMA files still won't play even with the brew app MP3 player. So I'm not sure what to believe yet. I already spent $3 to test the Vcast backups that I somehow made myself and found it had no sound, even when downloading the newest version via GIN.

    -aztech8r

PS) for my browser problem, I already tried:
    1) testing browser on alltel flashed v3m, homepage loads and after zipcode says call *611 (error 991)
    2) #0setup* browser reset
    3) #0setup* changing EVDO to 1x
    4) testing browser on unflashed vzw v3m, vzw homepage loads and after zipcode shows my balance

is there maybe something i can backup from my unflashed phone and write to my alltel flash?
or maybe online ESN swap and *228 again?

I would try the ESN thing again. Can't hurt. Don't dial *228. See if that helps. I was In NYC today, and was able to verify all of my services work :-D
. I thought My evdo wasn't working, but it is. I didn't bother with Vcast because I'm cheep :).

Yea, I dont NEED vznav, but when I heard it COULD work, I just signed up for a one day $3 trial. Thats how I was able to narrow the bits down. It works pretty nicely, but I dont subscribe. I will pay the $3 if I am on a road trip and am lost...but other than that, I find no need for it on a daily or even monthly basis. Im just the person that likes to KNOW its there if I need it. And the only thing not there is Vcast, and I could care less! :)

So there really isn't anything left undone. it would be nice to actually use the GPS for LAT And LON without using their service. And loading your own brew apps would be good, but I think they've pretty much locked that down.

ok so I screwed up my EVDO services trying to fix the browser, no more EV symbol I'm stuck in 1x. I think I am going to reflash to Vzw Monster and then back to Alltel. I can't for the life of me figure out why the homepage loads, but none of the options work.

Could someone do me a huge favor and try to check their balance from the browser? Let me know what happens please.

Check your PRL. If it isnt 50768, that is why. Just re-write your PRL and see if that fixes thing. If it doesnt, do the ESN switch or call CS to get your data reset...which ever method works for you. As for checking the balance, what do u usually do? Check thru your vzw web? Do u have to be subscribed to do that?
