Sorta....it says to do a *228 to UPDATE your phone before backing up your files. *228 wont back up anything for you. If your phone is currently active (and im guessing it is), just start where it says: The following are MANDATORY: And just go from there
help plz?... I'm at the part where it says the following.... 6. Edit the following seems. * 29a9, read 7f bytes from phone, load seem from file, write to phone. * 29bb, read 64 bytes from phone, load seem from file, write to phone. * 29bc, read 42 bytes from phone, load seem from file, write to phone. * 29e9, read 82 bytes from phone, load seem from file, write to phone. 7. Verify seems 01d1, 04aa and 038e contain your telephone number@vzw3g.com.... you will manually type in your 10digit#@vzw3g.com into 04aa (loads with bytes 0), and 038e (Load with 7a). After typing in the the values you will be a character left over from the previous seem, type 00 over the numbers in the left hand columns. 8. Verify seem 29a0 contains your telephone number@pix.vtext.com. 9. Verify seem 2977 contains testapps.myvzw.com 10. Verify seem 2979 contains apps.myvzw.com and apps2.myvzw.com Edit the 2742 Seem Offset: 001d Bit 3: Uncheck - Motorola Animation on Startup Offset: 0024 Bit 2: Uncheck - Voice Mail on #1 speeddial Offset: 0031 Bit 1: Uncheck - Motorola Animation on Shutdown Offset: 004b Bit 0: Check – GPS icon Offset: 005a Bit 7: Check – File Access in QPST Offset: 005f Bit 7: Check – Video Quality Offset: 0062 Bit 5: Check – Enable editing MMS server Offset: 006a Bit 3: Check – Enable 1xrtt settings Offset: 0074 Bit 7: Check – Service icon - However, the instructions fail to mention, am I using PST or P2KSeem? - * 29a9, read 7f bytes from phone, load seem from file, write to phone. Does this mean to load the 29a9 that I saved earlier with 7f bytes? It says to read it from the phone, but then load the seem file (wouldn't that just write over what was read? then save to the phone). This sounds like P2KSeem to me. Can you please help me clearify this?
also in steps 8,9,10. If those seems don't match am I suppose to load them from the files I saved earlier as well? step 8 looks right, but the seems from 9 and 10 still reads the alltel info.
It means to load your seem from your phone. It should be showing Alltel references. THEN load from file (the seems that you backed up from your phone). Then save to phone. If there is a seem you didnt back up, chances are you can download it from the guide via the hyperlinked seem description. Basically u are just trying to put the verizon seems back on so the phone references verizon file paths, etc/.
Yay ok I think I have completed pretty much all the steps except for... 4. correct MMS Setup (DanPFW & Alltel V3C Wiki) I can't access the web session for some reason. Did I miss something along the way? I can make calls now and the bluetooth also works so that's good but I'd like to see if I can get everything to work well. Thanks for all of your help through this whole process!
one last bit, when I compare the old tree in P2k to the current one, I see a lot of missing folders such as "nvm" "rom_alert" "my_music" to name a few. Is this expected?
Yes, all of that is expected. As for websessions, you cant do the #073887* to get into it just like normal? If you hadnt ever done it, you have to type it FAST, like no delay. Password is 000000. Not to burst the bubble, but directly after flashing, phone calls, text and bluetooth wil lall work. It is the data services, such as MMS (pix messages), Get It Now, and Mobile Web that need to be fixed.
I'm not really sure about the #073887* thing, where do you actually go and input that information? in the main screen? b/c if I try it like a phone number verizon just tells me I can't connect instead of asking for a password. Not really sure. Well I think I've played with it enough to start understanding how stuff works now. I've managed to get the "Get It Now" to come up with the expected results. Mobile Web works. Text messaging works but I'm not sure about MMS since we don't really use it. Oh I did have something on my mind. I tried to send over a MP3 from my laptop to the v3m but it was rejected saying the file was too big. I then tried a smaller file and it worked just fine. It seem strange to me since the phone shows it has over 20 megs of free space. Is there some kind of a file transfer size limit? If there is...can we change it somehow? Thanks again. Even if I can't figure out anything else I think this was an overall success!!! :highclap: :uppoint: :thumb:  :cheers2:
I pretty much followed all the dirrections CincyBall told me in the monster1 link. Didn't use monster2 b/c Cincy sounded like he thinks 1 is better and frankly I trust what he says when it comes to cell phones ==================================== 5. Enable GIN appmgr (DanPFW & Alltel V3C Wiki) 1. Start Motorola Software Update or PST. 2. Start P2Commander. 3. Copy alltelappmgr.bar to P2k:/a/brew/mod/brewappmgr/ 4. Restart phone. ==================================== Try those instructions and see where that gets you? btw, a question from me now. I dled Cincy's iPhone skin, but how exactly do I input that into the phone? P2Commander?
I've done that Dunno why it's not working. Weird. As far as the skins, some of them come with p2kcommander scripts. The IPhone skin that I loaded did, so you would load pst, and then runn the p2kcommander installs script.
Yes, p2kcommader. Read this: Here is a link to skins for the Alltel UI -> http://darklodge.com/phonefiles/razr/skins/ But before trying to install them, READ, READ, READ this ENTIRE SECTION about skins: http://wiki.howardforums.com/index....l_User_Interface#Get_a_custom_look_with_Skins READ EVERYTHING BETWEEN the "Get A Custom Look With SKins" to the "Optional Seem Edits & Other Tricks " What error are you getting from GIN?
When I'm in 1X it just never returns anything, just sits there and spins. When I'm in EVDO no data services work, and GIN returns an error 15 or something like that. I'm in a shoddy evdo area right now so I'm trying to confirm that. All other data services work in 1X WAP/FreeWAP/MMS I havn't tried DUN but I'm sure it would be the same deal yes in 1X no in EVDO.
Have u tried re-writing the alltelappmgr.bar file? Also, is your evdo data not working b/c u didnt backup your cdma_sec file? Didu flash a while ago? Or just recently? Do u have your cdma_sec file backed up? Or the 01d2 seem?
I have both. I have a backup of cdma_sec from before I ran through the flash process. Then I have the 01d2 seem from radiocomm. I ran through the process a couple of times. And the cdma_sec may be differetn from the 01d2 since it was before I did a *228. How can I extract the keys from the 01D2 seem? I flashed about 3 weeks ago. I re-wrote alltelappmgr.bar more than a few times.
For those who didnt have the cdma_sec file, they can accomplish the same thing by writing the 01d2 seem back to the phone, and vice-versa. They both contain the data for evdo connection. Which one would you say is the current one? The cdma_sec or the 01d2 seem? As for GIN, u can open GIN, and u see the carriage there? And then when u click on it, it does nothing?
I can look at doing it again. I've been back and forth with this phone so many times. With GIN I see the carriage, I select it it takes me to Catalog, search and Mobile Shop Help. I select Catalog. It warns me about airtime Then I get the connecting, with the Picture of the phone, and thats where it stays.
I read every page 1-5 to make sure im not being redundant but most you you guys are pretty smart and know what your talking about, and me? I bought a Samsung SCH-A930, but with Verizon thinking i could do cool stuff with bluetooth now that i have it, i even picked a bulkier uglier phone FOR the bluetooth, but learning thats its been crippled by verizon... well, -What are seem edits? Can somone unexperienced do them? -Is flashing kidna like going from say an "operating system" to another? -If you flash your verizon to altnet or w/e and get the ringtone /wallpaper for your phone, will that ringtone/wallpaper be used even when you flash back? and if i wanted to carry through this, basically what would i need? I mean i got bits and pieces from the posts, but i would just like to know straight out. I dont mind if somone PMs or reposts this for me
This is the RAZR forum, so I and am surem ost others in here dont really know much about the Samsung phones. But to answer your questions: Seem editing is just turning feature ON that verizon has turned OFF, and yes, anyone can do them with the correct programs. Everything is fully reversible if u ever needed to bring your phone back for whatever reason Yes, flashing is installing another carriers software on your phone. Verizon and Alltel make the same phone, but their software contains what we want (ie: bluetooth, skinnable menus, etc). So we flash it since it is compatible. When u flash, EVERYTHING gets wiped off your phone. So when u see us flashing to Alltel, it is "permanent" (until we flash back to verzion). The alltel firmware runs much faster and has more features...thats why we do iit and keep it. It is tricky to get Verizon features to work however, hence the purpose of this thread and many others. Since we have Alltel's programming,m we need to hack it to change it back to Verizon programming, whilr unning alltel's software I stay in this forum, and this forum only, but Im sure there is a Samsung forum either in here, or somewhere that people are doing similar things. If u do enough searching, you will probably find what u need
GIN, WAP, MMS, VCAST All working It's official I re-flashed tonight following Monster2. I got Vcast, WAP and MMS GIN all working. This is the first time I re-flashed. I was not expecting this to work. The secret is Airplane mode is breaking the process just as I had suspected. I did the ESN switch to my wife's Krazr (kept her phone number on there during the switch, but I kept her phone turned off. It's no problem with the PIDS or the brew files. It's all about Airplane mode. I then Ran through the Monster2 Process. Took backups of everything along the way. I just installed Instant Messaging, and Vcast. GIN is working. Now to re-do my skins, and preferences
Congrats! It's official for me too, everything working and I also got CincyBall's iPhone skin. Cincy...that's pretty cool, I like how the wallpaper shows through. Now...if only the icons at the bottom did something similar since their backgrounds arn't transparent. Yeah I think I totally ignored the phone swapping deal and since I followed Monster1 I didn't even do the airplane mode thing. I didn't even turn off the phone. Left everything one just as is and flashed. Pretty much followed the instructions from start to end. (with lots of questions in the middle of course ) yay! now that I've learned more about cell phones...I wonder what stuff I can do/get for my own Nokia. :browani:
Drg0nz0 again kick-a**!!! I'm precambrian on the other forum if you hadn't guessed yet. Anyway just wanted to say kudos one more time as I know this whole process isn't exactly a walk-in-the-park. Atm, I'm re-flashed back to Vzw V3m Monster and called CS for them to fix data (GIN/Vcast/Browser). I just yesterday did full BitPim/p2kcommander backups of everything it would allow. Incase you didn't see my post on the other forums, do you mean that I can swap my ESN on my play V3m over to my work V3m, essentially have 2 ESN's on one phone? (if you posted there already ignore this one or vice-versa)? Also, when you copied the Vcast files back (/a/brew/mod/12513 and 13478) did you use your own backups or downloaded ones? -aztech8r
You had to call CS again? You shouldn't have to do that. PLust I think the ESN switcher does alot of the re-provisioning ot make things work. Just incase you read here first. YOu should be fine having 2 numbers on the other esn. Worst case it's still a verizon phone, and you can call cs, or dial *228 on the other phone if it were to have problems. I'd leave it off, and give it a shot. I used the Vcast files that were on Marks monster2 document. Vcast still disappears, but GIN lets you find and download it again. YOu'll have to make sure you run fresh backups as your EVDO secrets will have changed again. Good luck!
Glad to see people are getting their problems fixed. You need to use the vcast files from the tutorial b/c they cannot be backed up from your phone (that folder is blocked). As for the ESN switch, I personally never could get it to work, but u need to have another EVDO phone in order for it to work. But u are correct in that doing the ESN switch reprovisions the data much the sme way calling CS would. The 3rd way to get your data refrshed is by writing the HA and AAA shared secrets and then writing the 01d2 seem (yes, it achieves the same thing, but it confirms everything is correct). As for Vcast, even when u write the files, u still need to go into GIn and download Vcast (it will download the most current). There is NO SOUND, but at least it "sorta works". And about the airplane mode, it isnt really allll about that. I used and still use Monster1 and do not use airplane mode, and still have no probs getting data to work. As i said, once i enter the HA AAA shared secrets, everything seems to kick in.
SUCCESS!!!! THANKS CINCYBALL AND DRG0NZ0 ESPECIALLY!@# I did the phone number swap described by drg0nz0 and followed Monster1. I now have successfully tested voice/sms/mms/gin (downloaded IMs!!) I get Vcast no coverage message when I try Vcast, but I think that might be because I'm not subscribed. Well this is gonna sound weird then... I was able to copy them with either BitPim or p2kcommander I can't remember. Should I not use the ones I backed up? (/a/brew/mod/12513 and 13478) -aztech8r
Yea, I realized u can get the files out, but u cant get the .mif files...which are needed for the phone to "sign" the apps. I would just use the ones from the tutorial, thats wat i and most have used. Usually the not vcast coverage message means u are not in an EVDO area. Do u normallly live in an area where u would get EVDO coverage? You cannot access vcast when your signal is in 1x mode. Ifu think u are supposed to have EV showing and it isnt, it might be that u have a NON evdo PRL (if u did a*228)...so check your PRL and post which one is on ur phone. Some people have experienced NOT having the EVDO prl downloaded when doing *228, which usually means their evdo fix didnt go thru.
I got the .mif files too... Also, the 1x thing, I thought that was because in Monster1 guide it tells you to do a seem edit to change the EV symbol to 1x... I live in the largest city in my state and I am 100% sure I have EVDO available. I think my Vcast free trial period is over and I haven't re-subscribed. I could be wrong though, wouldn't be the first time =) -aztech8r
Yea, that was only on the Alltel v3c UPGRADE flash. The way that flash was treated was that Verizon f/w was still on the phone, just underneath the Alltel firmware. So when doing a *228, it would get confused and just break everything. However, with the monster flash, everything gets treated the way it is supposed to be. Im sure there is a more technical way to describe it, but it def works. I still just manually update b/c in my mind it is just as fast as waiting for the *228 call to go thru and install... Check the file sizes and make sure they aren't 0 bytes. I remember way back over on hofo Mark V was trying to back up files...I think I was able to as well...but they will be the same as the ones frome thu tutorial, so it really doesnt matter. As for 1x/evdo, there isnt a seem edit that will force 1x or evdo sybmol...there is a seem edit that changes the 1x symbol to a "D", but that doesnt affect network status, it is just a visible preference. I like the "D" for digital rather than the 1x...but has no bearing on evdo network connectivity. If on the Verizon network you always had evdo showing, and now it isnt...something is messed up. And my guess was your PRL version. The EVDO PRL is 50768. So if you have anything but that, then that means you have a NON-EVDO PRL on your phone, and you will never see the EV symbol again. So u can manually re-write your PRL from your backups, or I can send you that PRL, which will bring back your EV icon. If yours IS wrong, the reason why would be is u do a *228 with evdo fix not done, it COULD write a NON-EVDO prl to your phone...giving you that prob. And for the Vcast not connecting...if your phone doesnt show EVDO, it will say "coverage area not available". B/C i do not subscribe, but when i click Vcast, and am in EV area, it will connect and ask me if i want to subscribe. If i try and connect when in 1x mode, it says "coverage area not available". So I guess check your PRL on your phone and see what it is.
