There are only 300 something million people in the US, that cant be accurate. Unless I am interpreting that stat incorrectly?

Well that's the problem then. Those files won't stay copied through p2kcommander, so that must be why the menu for GIN is there but not working.

I did every step carefully from the Monster2 guide, I have everything fully backed up (apparently except my old game), and I used the exact version of each program it said to.

That must also be the reason why my SU/SD anims working, they probably didn't stay when I copied them over either. The only thing I can tell for sure that stayed when I copied it with p2kcommander was the alltel.gif. For some of the other files, the filenames and directories are there, but all the file sizes are 0.

Is there a better program for copying these than p2k that will make these files stay? (is it risky to just keep trying to copy them?) I don't understand why some stay and some don't.

Which version of p2kcommander are u using? I use 3.22 and 3.26 with no problems. As a heads up, you do not need MSU or PST open while using p2kcommander anymore with alltel's f/w, so if u are, try not using it, maybe it is getting bogged down. Also, make sure u are only transferring 2 or 3 files at a time at most.

p2kcommander 3.26, trying now without MSU or PST in the background. =)

    -aztech8r

PS) While trying it I notice when I made the new subdirectories it creates a file
s5vi.vxxxstuff.com should I be doing anything with those?

    --update--
Well, I've tried various methods now copying the Vcast and GIN files over and while they appear to copy
just fine, after a full power cycle of the phone, all files revert to 0 bytes. I can get them to stay normal size until I power off/on the phone. I'm stumped. I haven't found anything on google to help me get this last part working. I'm assuming this is why I get error (1288) trying to receive the GIN catalog, the program isn't completely there.

    heeeeeeelp!

Yea, that is why it probably isnt working. Which folder are u putting the alltelappmgr in? For no,w forget about vcast files.

    I put alltelappmgr.bar in:

    /a/brew/mod/brewappmgr

For whatever reason, that one seems to work, I see the GIN in the menu, I see the shopping cart, settings, and question mark.

But when I make the subdirectories /a/brew/mod/12513 and 13478, and then I copy the Vcast files in there, that's when all hell breaks loose. I think I kinda figured out the weird s5vi.vxxxstuff.com files, whoever wrote p2kcommander must have thought to create those files as to allow you to see the subdirectory you just made (I found a thread that says p2kcommander can't see empty directories).

Anyway, I can't figure out why some files stick and some don't, nor why GIN gives me (1288). I really appreciate all your time trying to help me!

Hmmmm, i think i might know why. Are u using the AUTO install??? If so, try loading them one at a time. Uploading a bunch at a time, will cause p2k to not send the files (even tho it appears it is)

I manually did the alltelappmgr.bar, but yes the first time I tried the Vcast one I did the auto-install. I've since tried 5 times now manually doing each file one at a time. The problem is, they all work, until the phone restarts. Then some files plain disappear (like /a/brew_preloads and the 2 files inside) and some revert to a size of 0 (like /a/brew/mod/12513 files and 13478 files).

I didn't do anything out of order, and I followed the guide verbatim. Is this just one of the things people talk about when they say how buggy p2kcommander is and that it's not really meant for CDMA phones?

Did running Mark's auto-install hose my phone? If someone out there has all of this working together, I would consider flashing back to Vzw Monster just to start the process of flashing to Alltel Monster properly if that's what it takes. However since everything else worked according to the guide, I'm holding out hope for a fix.

Strange...I have everything on mine working, but followed Monster1 (the non-automated process). But I do know people who have gotten it working using that same tutorial. I dont think ur phone is hosed.

Since u have all the backups, u can just flash with the monster again and it will get u back to the beginning of the process, and u can do it step by step again, this time doing the GIN fix manually from scratch.

Just so we are clear, the GIN files have nothign to do with Vcast fixes and vice versa. You shoudl only need the alltelappmgr.bar, the two mma files, and the 3 animated .gifs.

All of thr 12513 and 13478 folders are vcast and have zero bearing on GIN.

Yep same size. I notice that there is a new version of P2kcommander that says it works with v3m, think that might be worth a shot?

I'm gonna try reflashing the Alltel now and using Monster1 guide instead. I'll post an update in the next 30 mins or so.

CincyBall what did you set your SystemID to on the activation part? Mark says his is 2004, there were no instructions telling me to back up that info so I have no idea what it was before I flashed. (I'm doing the manual activation where I used the #073887* menu) On Monster2 guide this part was done automatically I think, or one of the scripts fixed it for me, this is the part where I set my phone back to my phone number, but on the System ID part I have no clue what to change that to...

I tried making a call after putting in my phone number and changing the CDMA_SYS ID and it says it's not authorized on that network heh. So I think I need that System ID...

    -aztech8r

    --update--
I'm not getting anywhere with Monster1 guide... It seems like it's missing some major part that Monster2 guide has in it that allowed me to not have to have 2 phones 1 active and 1 inactive... I've now followed Monster1 guide all the way through, and now I can't make any calls or anything, it won't even find a network.

as for your companies settings try to look for a friend with the same phone as yours.. and just write down the settings on #073887* (password for a few of those options is 0000.) That worked for me.. i messed up and I took my mothers phone and started to copy all the info inside the #073887*..Hope it helps

Hey Redspyder that's a great idea, but how do I enable that #073887* menu? I tried on my mom's phone too but it didn't go into the Setup mode..

On a side note, I combined one of the steps on Monster2 guide with Monster1 guide, I believe the QPST part or one of the PST parts and that put in the right info. (for those that are interested, my CDMA_SYS ID was different, but my System ID was the same as Mark's: 2004)

I think since I haven't bricked my phone, I am capable of getting into the state like you guys have yours.. But I think I'm going to re-write the Monster1 and Monster2 guides into one, coherent no-guess-work guide, maybe with screen caps. Because both guides got me basically going, but the one with the Radiocomm part seemed to have the crucial step for getting back on my network and actually being able to make a phone call..

Try to do the #073887* a few times i dont know if it depends on the version of the cellphone (im not as smart as Cincy) but at least it worked for me... i think you should re-flash and follow the guide that cincyball wrote in this forum..thats all i followed and I did it from the first try...but since I live in Puerto Rico I have no use for Vcast not MMS cuz im not payin for those...so all i have to do was basic seem replacing after the flash and copying the settings from my moms cell... Good luck

#073887* FAST FAST FAST. Gotta do it as quick as possible. When it asks for password, it is 000000. As for your system id, that should be applied back to the phone when u write your CDMA_NAM file back to the phone I believe, or when u do the *228 option 1 after flashing and writing the ERI and PRL to the phone.

    Spyder,

I didnt write any tutorial, just referenced the one mark wrote. As for the skin, the reason the text is white is so u can see what u are typing :) The letters are gray, and they wouldnt show up on a black transparent background. glad u like the skin though.

CincyBall, well, I must have a special phone. Like the .01% of other people (I found 1 single reference to the same situation I have) I can't upload new files with p2kcommander. I've tried several versions, while every thing appears to work when doing the copying, the files go away when the phone restarts.

I don't think I am going to be able to do anything with the Alltel Monster firmware as a result of this. It's driving me nuts, I'm a computer programmer and this is not a difficult process for me to understand, yet it's not working the way everyone else got it to.

Right now I'm on a semi-functional Alltel Monster, I have no GIN, no Vcast, no MMS (yeah I dunno how I managed to get that to work the first try but not on my subsequent tries). I haven't bothered making my ringtones again and seeing if OBEX/OPP actually works...

If I didn't shave my head with a razor, I'd be pulling out my hair :/

No that's just for anonymity... I live in the US heh

I can't find *anything* as to why files won't stay transfered over from
p2kcommander. SOMETIMES the filenames will stay like I said before, but the
    size reverts to 0.

Sorry about that, if I dont answer right away which I cant sometimes, the thread gets outta control quickly. Here is a link that u can try. I have never needed to do it, but lemme know if this isnt working, and we can try another solution. (im not 100% what happens when the file was deleted, whether the path was broken, or what)

    Greetings,

I'm having the very same problem. I just flashed last night, and got everything else working. NO GIN, or Vcast.
I'm not sad about it, but It's a technical challenge, so I'll probalby keep trying until I get it. But I'm tired.
My problem, is the files dissapear, they don't go to zero.

Strange. How are you adding them in p2kcommander? Drag and drop? Or using the copy function? What happens if u transfer the file, and then re-read the phone BEFORE restarting? Does it still disappear? Trying to see if it is a p2k prob where the files arent getting there in the first place, or if your phone is rejecting upon a restart.

Funny you mention drag/drop vs. copy function, and re-read before restarting phone. Stop reading my mind! I actually tried both of those. Doing the re-read before restarting with either drag&drop or copy, results in the some of the files staying, but being 0 bytes. Otherwise they all dissappear (in p2kcommander, I've noticed that sometimes the subdirectories actually stay, like if I look at it in BitPim, but I'm thinking due to the way p2kcommander handles empty subdirs they don't show up there.) I'm also not 100% sure, but I'm guessing v5si or whatever his nickname is, thought to auto-add the file v5si.vxxxstuff.com into subdirectories you make so that you can actually see them (in p2kcommander.)

    -aztech8r

PS) I just noticed this and am getting a little suspicious now of the Alltel Monster I downloaded... Check this out:

    FlashErrorLog.txt
    ----------------
    15:18:29, March 16, 2007
    Line: 139
    ERROR: C:\XXX\ALT_V3M_01.1A.00R_PRIkk27390_MONSTER_01.hmg was not found.
    File: Y:\test_dev_usb\flash\code\flashdll\pst_fp_fileio.cpp

    15:18:44, March 16, 2007
    Line: 139
    ERROR: C:\XXX\ALT_V3M_01.1A.00R_PRIkk27390_MONSTER_01.hmg was not found.

Thing is, I don't have a drive mapped to Y: Now, my instinct is to say: AHA!
file input/output is messed up from the flash... But I don't have enough experience with these firmwares or the flash util to be certain that error is even relevent.

If you mess up and delete your outer LCD display picture just do this..
use pk2seem and load seem 2771 0 bytes and record 1. After that you just need to type the location of the .gif . Example

    /.a./.m.o.b.i.l.e/.a.l.l.t.e.l...g.i.f

(The periods are 00 hex values except for the one in bold(red) which is a real period.)

after that your set , restart your phone and done :browani:

I just tried flashing on my laptop, which means I had to install all the programs fresh etc. I also downloaded the firmware from the other link besides the badongo one. Upon finishing the flash process (mutliflashflex.exe,) I checked the error log and I still got the same error I pasted before. Can anyone verify if this is "normal" behavior? I am using the same software version(s) Mark says to use on one of the hofo threads.

CincyBall, could the disappearing GIN/Vcast files be caused by the BREW's PID? I saw Mark mention something.. but wasn't sure if he was describing the same situation. My Vzw backup's say the PID is 8001, but I think Mark may have been hinting that the fix's PID is 8084?

I dunno really I'm just trying to get everything working, I have been able to make regular phone calls, AND was able to test OBEX/OPP last night with a friend sending ringtones back and forth. Still need to get MMS/GIN/Vcast going
and I think one of those 3 will get my IM clients no?
