Yea, the screen size is 176x220. So you should make wallpapers that size. Ringtones only need to be 30 seconds in length since voicemail picks up after about 27-30 seconds. Have fun!

Hey CincyBell, I have the same phone as you, vzw v3m. I have a couple of easy questions before I get started flashing it to the Alltell firmware.

First, since you have the same phone, I am curious... Had you performed any seem edits prior to flashing? I currently have the seem edits to enable MMS and fix the time/date from jumping backwards when the phone is turned on.

Second, I see that I need another software called Motorola PST (aside from p2kseem, MSU, and MPT which I currently have), is there a way to do this process without buying that software? If not, where is the cheapest place I can pick it up?

Third, I just wanted to verify 100%, will this process enable me to use OBEX and OPP to send pics/tones/contacts via bluetooth?

Fourth, and last, are there any features that Verizon offers on the v3m that you can't use anymore? (I am unclear if I will be able to use Get-it-Now, or the GPS)

    Unneccessary anecdote:
Funny story how I ended up with this crippled RAZR from Verizon: My sister upgraded her service plan on T-Mobile and it came with the pink RAZR v3c. I fell in love with the features for the obvious reasons, and I bought her MPT for her birthday so she could do all the fun MMS stuff. When it came time to renew my service plan (was with Qwest) I switched to Verizon because they had a plan very similar to the Qwest one, AND it got me the RAZR v3m. I was quickly and severely disappointed to find out that virtually ALL of the features that made me want that phone, were no where to be found. I decided I would just live with it, because the phone was still nicer than my old Motorola V60. Then one day I tried to text a picture I had taken with the 1.3 megapixel cam, only to get the message that the pic was too big to send. After talking to tech support, their solution was for me to turn off High Quality and set it to Low. Leaving all my high quality pics trapped in my phone =(. Then after several months of dispair, I stumbled upon Mark Venture's site and quickly applied the MMS seem edits to get me by. I was finally able to do something with all my HQ pics! Now I find this thread and my hopes are quickly rising again that I might be able to enable all of the features I want/need!

Yes, I had performed seem edits, etc, but none of that matters when flashign to Alltel's V3M monster firmware. EVERYTHING verizon will be wiped offthe phone, and EVERYTHING alltel will be on it. So seem edits will have gone away, etc...but dont work, there are PLENTY to do to get data working again.

PST isnt anything that can be purchased. You need to Google it. Since it is copyright software, I am not allowed to link to it. But look for version 7.2.5, NOT 7.2.3. You will find plenty 7.2.3, but u need 7.2.5 (also make sure there is a uni_patch with it as well, which it should be).

Yes, this process fully enables Bluetooth file transfer; OBEX AND OPP. As long as you understand, BOTH phones must have OPP to share files. You haveing OPP and trying to SEND/PUSH files to a phone without it will get you nowhere. OBEX = phone<-->computer, OPP = phone<-->phone

As long as you do all the fixes per the tutorials, then everythign will work (MMS, GIN, WAP). The only things that DONT work are VZNavigator (NO GPS function..yet anyways), and no Vcast. Other than that, its all good on 1x AND evdo.

CincyBall, Wow fast and great response! I also notice this time that my dyslexia kicked in last post and the a in your nick turned into an e in my head, sorry!

I'll try lookin around for the PST 7.2.5, and I'll post an update once I get this going.

Cincy , I succesfully flashed to alltel the only thing is that when i turn to find automatic signal the phone goes to roaming and I dont want to find out if its actually in roaming, now my phone is working in HOME SIGNAL only... is there like a fix for this, theres something wrong i did? is it just phone programmin?

Also, im having some issues that my date time is missing sometimes... like sometimes it says SAT 01 07, and sometimes it only says SAT.. is there a seem for this?

Thanks in advance for everything! (ive been bragging about my phone thanks to you ! all of my friends are like man you rock! lol... also i added the iPhone skin to my razr and it looks sweet... looks so f`in cool one of my friends touched my screen cuz he thought it was touchscreen lol what a moron....)

From what I have read, you want to use "Automatic B" as your network choice in Menu->Settings->Network->Automatic B.

You will need to do a seem edit I believe as it isnt an option after flashing:

Seem 2742, Record 1, Bytes 0, Offset 0028, Bit 3 - Check to ON to enable "Automatic B" in network choices.

Is your date problems related to different skins? Or does it happen when using the same skin?

Thats funny about the iPhone skin, my fiancee was jealous at first, but then she put two and two together that only Cingular has the iPhone and it couldnt be true ;)

I did the seem edit.. and it still goes into roaming... the fact that im in Puerto Rico might affect? I think ill just stick to home Only coz Auto Scan and Auto B doesnt work and for the day problem i think its teh skin.. but i love it so much that i dont care to know what day it is

Your roaming must be due to the fact you are in PR. I dont believe you are technically roaming, but I undertand why you woouldnt want to find out ;)

As forthe skin, if you tell me which one you are using that has that problem, I can tweak the .ski file so that the date either is fully there, or so it is completely gone. Same goes for the time. I like to remove both so my wallpapers have nothing over them, it makes them look cleaner. Plus, the date and time are still on the outside lcd screen. Let me know if you would like me to clean things up for ya.

CincyBall, I am having a problem backing up my CDMA ERI file. It gets to a point where PST says Suspending phone... The progress bar goes to 50% then I get a nice error saying "Unable to suspend phone. Please power-cycle the phone and try again." I tried 3 times unplugging the cable, powering phone off/on, reconnecting cable. Each time I get the same message. I was following Mark's guide, and up until this point everything went smoothly. Any ideas?

Vzw V3m seem editted for MMS and time/date glitch

    --update--
It seems like something happened when I backed up my BREW file, as PST can no longer do anything. I tried opening the phone book again (the test Mark says to make sure PST is working) and when that process tries to restart the phone I get the same message about not being able to suspend etc. I've now rebooted the pc, and tried power cycling the phone again, same thing. I'm stuck and don't know what to do next.

    --update--
I found a thread by Mark suggesting I unplug the cable and then yank the battery instead of powering off/on. This got me back on track!

Wow, I have gotten so helpful that problems get resolved on their own :p I could get used to this...

Yea, I was going to say try removing the battery, and using a usb port on the back of the comp if u werent already doing so.

I like this talk of backing up ERI files, etc...it means more people flashing away from the Verizon UI!!!

    CincyBall thanks for your support!!!

    Successfully flashed to Alltell Monster!

I forgot to backup all my handmade ringtones, oh well. The only thing I have
left to do now is copy my phonebook over. But, at least nothing went
catastrophically wrong =) I've sent and received a text message and made 2
phonecalls already. I also need to do some customizations like screensaver, wallpapers, clock etc.

Any advice on that? Or can you point me to another thread?

Good job! Feels nice doesnt it?

Just to let you know, phone calls will work no matter what, and same with text. However, the things that wont work until u fix data are thinbgs like MMS, Get It Now, and Mobile Web.

Sorry to hear about your tones. As for your phonebook, it might not transfer properly if you used MPT b/c u would have backed them up with Verizon f/w, and then when transferring to Alltel, it is a different format which might prevent it from going thru. That is based on using the phonebook restore option. It should be fine if u just did it in the main menu of the phonebook tab. Or also if u had them backed up with PST. Even if it doesnt work, at least u can get the spreadsheet of ur contacts so u dont have to put them in from memory. Let me know if u have probs with it.

As for wallpapers, screen savers, etc, its all the same as verizon f/w. However, here is a nice site with TONS of different themes. -> http://www.motox.info/showthread.php?t=5952

Well, I seem to be missing my IM's like MSN... that's a bummer, I used that more than regular text messages =( Also, when I try to view the GIN catalog, it says it can't connect and gives me error
code (554). I tried doing the hex-editor thing to copy the hex keys for MIP and that didn't seem to
    help. Did I break something?

If you are getting error 554 for GIN, that means your data is still off, or just needs to be re-authenticated. If u want to send me your cdma_sec file, I will extract the proper hex values for you. Did u get them okay? Or were u not able to get what u needed? B/c I think that would help you get everything up and running. Also, which tutorial did u follow? Monster1.htm or Monster2.htm?

As for your GIN apps, once we get everything up and running, u can call CS and tell them that ur apps arent there any more, and usually they will credit ur acct so u can purchase them again. Just dont tell them why they are gone. Playing dumb usually works the best.

Well, I used Monster2 guide and winhex to copy (hex values) the strings. Should I have used Monster1 guide or is there a step over there I can go back and do? I would like to try whatever I can on my side before troubling you with hex editting for me =) I am fairly certain I did that part correctly, so hopefully there is something in Monster1 guide I can go back and do now.

No, the monster2 is fine. I was asking b/c I was going to have you write the 01d2 seem back to your phone, but Monster2 does that automatically with radiocomm. Yea, when doing the hex values, u copied the AAA and HA into the correct location right? It is easy to switch them. Also, you put them in as hex VALUES right? Once u do, and hit okay and Write to Phone, it will switch back to retain last value, and everything should be okay. If all of that is accurate, you should try and see if u can send YOURSELF an MMS message. That way u can test if it sends and receives properly. If THAT doesnt work as well, then we need to reset your data authenticaton. U can try it by doing a *22899. If that doesnt work, just try calling CS and playing dumb by saying I can no longer access my GIN catalog.

EDIT: Or you can do the online ESN switch the guide talks about

Ok then on the QPST part where I paste in those hex values, do I need to have the <mynumber>@alltell.net in there along with <mynumber>@vzw3g.com?

Or can I delete the alltell.net reference and change the Active User to 0?

EDIT: I had editted the alltell.net reference instead of adding a new one, I just changed it back and added a new one for vzw3g.com and I can send myself MMS messages, but now I get error (1288) trying to view the catalog.
Also is there an online manual for the Alltell V3m? I did the Vcast patch but I don't see Vcast anywhere.

Leave the alltel.net profile there. You should have created a second profile with vzw3g in there on that one. And then u need to switch the active user from 0 to 1. So "0" should be the defaul with alltel.net references. "1" should be the one u added with vzw3g.com references.

Then IN the one u created, u need to paste the hex values into it.

Im not sure why u would get error 1288, but i have heard it before. I will look for it and get back to you.

Ok, me and a few others have tweaked it to make it better. I have created a link with the tweaked version that ironed out the final bugs. I have also edited it to remove the date and time. I suggest deleting the ne u have in BitPim, and put this one on from scratch. Take a look at the Settings menu now, u will see it has a white background and doesnt really fit the rest of the theme. We have changed it to a black menu like the rest.

    http://rapidshare.com/files/21086795/iPhone.zip.html

As for your alltel.gif, you shouldnt have deleted it. But since u did, did u try adding the alltel.gif image back to the phone in the same spot? If so, make sure it is named that exact file name.... alltel.gif If u need the file, I have attached it. I would think if u used p2kcommander to add it back to the a/mobile folder, it SHOULD be fixed. If not, let me know and I will describe another way to fix it.

CincyBall I think I might see the problem with my phone. Mark only had the V3c MMA_UCP/MMA_DCP files in his guide, and I of course have the V3m. I don't know if this is the problem for sure, but I am searching now for v3m specific versions of those files. I also notice that in BitPim when I made new subdirectories for Vcast in /a/mod, and copied the files in, they didn't stay? I tried twice, maybe I am doing BitPim wrong but I just drag/drop the files in and the little progress bar seemed to go, but no dice.

Found the problem, BitPim can only delete or overwrite files... I'm going to try p2kcommander now...

    -update2-
Well, I thought that was the problem, the files aren't staying when I copy them over with p2kcommander either. Any thoughts?

Thanks, yea that skin is virtually the only one I use, even though I have 9 on my phone, haha.

As for the alltel.gif... now that u have added it, if u right click on it, what are the attributes??? Mine show 0005. Make sure urs looks like the pic I attached. If you are still having problems, let me know. We can definitely get this fixed, just a matter of how advanced it needs to get :) Also, make sure u have it in the correct location. Since it was deleted, did u remember where on the phone it was?

My guess is we are going to have to do a few seem edits to reconstruct the file path, but we will see.

    Aztech,

Yes, BitPim to delete/overwrite, p2k to add.

Asfor your Vcast, I personally could never get it to work either. Im not sure why it is in the guide b/c I dont think it works, but perhaps I will try again later. They never stayed for me either...

Those mma_ucp and dcp files are the same for v3c and v3m. What makes u think they might be incorrect? Due to the fact ur vcast wont load in? Just for a little info on them, the mma_ucp stands for User Control Panel. They change the icons (more specifically, the GIN and Mobile Web icons from the Alltel version back to the Verizon versions).

Mark said the mma_ucp and mma_dcp he had was for a different phone and
might not work on the V3m *shrug*

I'm a little disappointed with the Alltel Monster honestly. The one feature I
used every single day is gone, my Instant Message clients =( I don't really
care about Vcast so I guess I'm giving up on that one since none of the files
stay when I copy them over and no one seems to know why.

I'm probably going to re-flash back to Vzw Monster because I missed at least
50 text messages yesterday without my mobile MSN IM. All I wanted to be
able to do with the Alltel was get OBEX/OPP so I could send contacts and
ringtones to my buddies, but I lost more features I think going to Alltel than I
had by choosing Verizon as my provider for the RAZR.

There is the possibility that I'm wrong, but my Get it Now menu doesn't even
have Games or IM. For GIN all I have is a shopping cart that doesn't work,
settings that don't apply because I don't have any BREW apps, and a
question mark menu. Infact I can't find games anywhere on here now that
    it's Alltel.

Vzw v3m -> Alltel Monster -> Going back to Vzw Monster for mobile IM, GIN, and Vcast

Yea..noticed that with my E815. Honestly..wish I went with Cingular now. 1. They have better coverage in Bellevue.. (and apparently better national coverage-270 Million people vs VZW's 255 Million).. and so far..the only time they apparently haven't put protocols into their phones is when..for some reason..the phone cannot support it.

Noticed that with the new 3g and VOX...they didn't have it in the early models..but newer models are coming out with it.

As for modding..rather not since after reviewing my contract and stuff with VZW, they can cancel my service...and charge the ETF...if i mod the phone..heck they can do it if i use a repeater or range extending antenna.

If you did the data fixes properly and the GIN app properly, it is teh SAME GIN as verizon, b/c it is Verizon's. Anything u were using on GIN before flashing, can be used with this f/w. If your carriage doesnt wor, you messed up on the fixes. I can go into GIN and go into Messaging and download the AIM app with no problems. The only reason VZNav doesnt work is b.c Alltel's f/w doesnt use the same settings.
