Don't know if this is the proper place to post but here goes.

I went to uprade my phones with verizon and they told me that I would need to sign up for two more years. I have a contract right now with two phones. My contract is up in August and I was told my upgrade date was today 4/28/09. I was told I was eligable for my 1st phone to be upgraded a couple a months ago, but I would need to wait until today to upgrade my other phone. Now they tell me that I need to sign another two year contract because of my second phone.

They never said anything about having to sign another two year contract until we actually upgraded today. Even last night when I talked with customer service. Where's the deal "upgrade" if I'm having to sign another 2 year contract? IDoes anyone know their policy with two phone upgrade?

First off welcome to Wireless Advisor!

To answer your question, to get an "Upgrade" as in a discount on a new phone all companies require you to sign a new contract with them. This is to ensure that they make their money back on the phone they "discount" for you. It also doesn't matter if you upgrade 1 phone or 200 phones, each phone has a contract assigned to it and has to be renewed to be elidgeable for the upgrade price.

    Toasinloaf, welcome to the site.

You have separate contracts for each phone. It's not unusual for them to have different upgrade eligibility dates. In order for you to get a new phone at a discount price, you need to extend your contract. You don't have to sign another contract, but be prepared to pay full price for a phone.

The New Every 2 discount (only available on the primary line) becomes available 20 months into the contract period. This is the same time frame for the discounted upgrade (for all other lines).

Your primary line became eligible earlier, now your second line is eligible. It makes more sense to upgrade both your lines at once so you will have the same uniform renewed contract date. You have two contracts, not one covering both lines. That's not how it works.

If you cancel any line while still under contract, you will be hit with an Early Termination Fee. You may be eligible for the declining ETF on your lines, which would considerably reduce the end cost of the early term fee.

Also, I am relocating this thread to the Verizon Forum.

Think of it this way. You can get a decent phone for free or close to, by upgrading both lines (signing another 2yrs) or pay roughly 200.00 or more for the same phone at retail without a contract extension. VZW reduces their ETF (175.00 per line) by 5.00 for every month that you satisfy so, as long as you don't cancel your service right away, you'll come out ahead. Or, there is always Ebay. Keep in mind that with a contract extension also comes a 1 Year warranty on most phones. I hope that helps. Best of luck to ya.
