    Hello everybody,

Somebody please help a noob out.
I currently have an LG 510 (Verizon) and the buttons are beginning to fail. If I buy a Verizon phone elsewhere (for example, Ebay), what's the proceedure to switch phones and keep my plan? Do I just call Vz CS and request it? Are there service charges for switching?

    Thanks in advance!

its even easier than that. you just go online to their website, and there is a place where you can put in the ESN number of your new phone (its on the sticker usually where the battery goes.) and voila you can use the new phone. just be careful who you buy a phone from on E-bay because if it has been stolen or its last account has not been paid up you will not be able to use the phone.

    When buying phones from Ebay.

1.) After you win the bid BUT BEFORE YOU PAY.....ask for the ESN. It is the number on the sticker under the battery on the phone itself. If they won't give you the ESN don't pay them because without it you cannot verify if the phone is "hot" (stolen or the account unpaid) or not.

2.) Call Verizon Customer service and ask for the status of the ESN of that phone. If it is hot, don't buy it. If it is good, buy it.

3.) When you get the phone you can call Verizon CS from preferably a landline phone and ask for the ESN change or, if its available in your market, you can login to your online Verizon wireless account and do the change online when you get the phone.

If you have any questions please feel fre to ask. Also please, keep us posted on how things progress.

    Thanks all!
I really appreciate all the info. I didn't know it would be so easy.
I was afraid I'd get flamed for being a noob.

Couple of more questions if you don't mind...
Is there a service charge for switching the ESN?
How long does it take to process the change?
ANy other sources to purchase phones besides E-bay (at discount)?

    Thanks again!
