Have any of the posters near NYC been having droped call problems with verizon in the city lately? I ask because one of my friends was having a minor problem with this and when I asked at a few stores they claimed that Verizon was having capacity issues in NYC.

This is true. What you get is a varying signal bar which I attribute to capacity problem. Verizon may have great coverage but there's just too many customers on their air waves so it results in dropped calls.

I couldnt reach someone for 3 hrs, In North Brunswick all this week, he says he is only getting VM messages. I think Verizon just needs to buy Sprint.

One week ago, Fox 5 here in NYC did a report on cell phones. They said that out of all the major cities in the US, NYC has, by far, the worst cell phone service of any city. They were not biased against any carriers in particular, but averaging them all out, residents of NYC experience more dropped calls and/or no service more often than any other person in any other major city.

I am surprised since NYC is the biggest city in the country and perhaps the world and I would think NYC would be # 1 before any other city too.

My thought....Verizon is the best, BUT I too, have had my calls dropped several times or calls just going to VM with 5 signal bars. But with other carriers, I am lucky to even obtain a singal in most parts of the city, so I am sticking with Verizon.

We have the no ring -> voicemail problem upstate too. I can set my phone on the desk, stare at it's full signal indicator, call it with another phone, and it never rings. Or if it decides to be super kind and ring, it rings once and claims "missed call". I'm curious if anyone knows the problem.

This has happened with every phone my friends and I own, from antique Zach Morris types to V60's and the like.
