I've only been a Verizon customer for 3 weeks and it seems to be better than Cingular. Anyways, i have the LG VX4400 and tried to extend the ring duration

Well i called Verizon CS to see how to extend my ring duration but none of them seem to help.

The first responce that i got was to go to my voice mail and go to the Admin Options and the go to Prompt and change it to Extended Prompt. When i called my phone, it rang 4 times and went to my voice mail.

Since that didn't work, i called them again and was told to go the Option 7 (System) on the Admin Option and change it from there. Unforuntaly there is no option 7 on my Admin settings.

Finally i decided to call back once again and this time the consumer service rep asked the Tech support people about it and was told that the ring duration depends on how strong the signal is and basically they can't do anything to extend it to 6-7 rings rather than 3-4 rings.

Is the Verizon CS always so clueless about stuff like this? It took three times before i actually got a right answer.

I thought that verizon can extend the ring duration thru there networks....Has anyone else successed in extending their ring duration?

Depends on the region you are in.

Currently we use 3 different switches... Motorola (Garbage) Nortel (above garbage) and Lucent (AWESOME)

the first 2 are only capable of global ring duration changes (usually 20 sec) any change can only be done to all the users in that market.

Lucent switches allow you to change the ring duration per customer acct as much as 1 min. Unfortunately here in the West Airtouch chose Nortel while most east coast areas use Lucent the others use motorola

How can I tell if I live in a Lucent area? And if I do, how do I extend my ring duration?

I had occasion to speak with VZW about this same issue two weeks agao.

The fiirst Rep said, yes, it can be done depending upon one location. That the change would have to be made by a tech in a different dept. I was informed that the network would allow up to 15 rings before sending it to voice mail. I chose 6-8. A few days later I determined I needed more rings and went to have it changed again. I was told impossible, no such thing, no way etc. I now have 6 - 8 rings and will have to live with it.
