Yes, I noticed the beeping thing after the ring too. It is call waiting when the other Verizon customer is on the other line. My other friends notice it too. Actually, I know someone with Cingular and I get the same tone when he is on the other line as well.

I don't think it's call waiting, and here's why: I just called my cell from my work phone -- and sure enough, as soon as I connect, I hear the 3 beeps in quick succession. Next - I called my work phone from my cell, and at the first ring at my work phone, I hear the 3 beeps again. So - it really didn't have anything to do w/call waiting. I'm calling Verizon now -- they said call waiting is only 1 beep, and are transferring me to tech support...if I get anywhere, I'll post!!

ok - here's the scoop: the 3 quick beeps meant I have a voice mail msg waiting. My phone always used to show when I had one waiting, but in fact, there were 2 unheard ones sitting in my mailbox! Verizon said they updated something at there end to make sure my phone gets the indicator, and we tested it while I was on the phone w/them. Everything works as it should -- they sent a test vm, my phone showed I had one, I retreived it, and now since there are no more unheard messages in my mailbox, I no longer have the 3 beeps...yea!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So - if anyone is having this same "issue" - check your vm just to be sure you don't have one sitting in there that your phone didn't tell you -- then call Verizon and make sure whatever indicator they send to your phone is set....

I can always tell when my friends with VZW are ignoring a call by that ring. But it is not unique to verizon. When a GSM phone is in use the recording at voice mail is different than the regular voice mail recording. Even if you are not on the phone but reject the call, the caller gets the busy voice mail recording.
