I'm deciding between Verizon and T-Mobile contracts in Maine. Wondering if anyone in Maine has compared service, and I'm particularly interested in how the national coverage compares.
The new T-Mobile maps with 850 roaming will look better in Maine, although I don't think it will match Verizon. I have the map, but can't post it yet.
I don't want to hijack this thread but... Do you have any new maps for CT (Litchfield area - Torrington) I just signed on with t-mobile (have 8 days left to get out with out a ETF) and coverage is OK but not like Nextel... Can you let me know if I should stay or go back to Nextel? Thanks John
I only have a US map, so I can't give you that detail. The best detailed maps are the ones on the T-Mobile website. It will be later this year before the combined 850/1900 maps for T-Mobile are on their website.
Litchfield looks like a huge dead area to me. But Torrington looks like it has some coverage. You can see the coverage maps here: http://www.t-mobile.com/coverage/?class=coverage
That T-Mobile Map has been altered NOT to be accurate anymore. I know for a fact they have a Tower in some Location but it's only show FAIR coverage. Coverage MAPS are Changing from BAD to WORST.
Today, 11/8/05. you have to be crazy to get a GSM provider in NH, ME & VT. Stick with CDMA(Verizon, USCC) for now. Check back in two years though because I think GSM will be awesome then.
Recently went on a bus trip up north. Verizon coverage from the Boston area was non-stop through Massachusetts (I-93), New Hampshire (I-93 to I-89) and Vermont (I-89), right to the Canadian border. Roaming coverage in Canada was good, it was either on Bell Mobility (close to the U.S. border) or Telus Mobility (in Montreal), full signal (the 1x icon was displayed), but could not text message, the phone indicated it had to be in a digital service area (Isn't that the 1x, or is text messaging not allowed when roaming?). On the same trip last Spring, on I-89 in New Hampshire, the T-Mobile signal dropped around exit 3 on I-89, there was no service between exits 3 and 15, then at exit 15, it picked up roaming coverage on Unicel. Unicel coverage was non-stop from that point, until about 20 miles from the Canadian border, when I turned the phone off. In Canada, it roamed on Fido or Rogers, full signal, and text messaging worked.
