sorry if its been posted, couldn't find it doing a search, but is it true what they are saying at hofo about verizon eliminating free holidays? and that they are now considered peak minutes. Have I not noticed it if its been in place for a while?
That's unfortunate. It's all these little changes that are making me consider to switch to a different carrier.
Really? You guys will switch mainly because they took free holidays away? When I had Verizon (1999-2001) holidays were free...then I switched to Cingular and found no free holidays.....it bummed me out, but I wouldn't consider going back to Verizon just for free holidays. I found that on holidays, I was usually with family and friends, therefore I really didn't have to call anyone.....or it was really short small calls.
For me, the recent changes that have me steamed are: 1. VZW will no longer activate non E911 GPS enabled phones (No more Korean CDMA phones ) 2. An ESN change via the phone will now cost $15.00... the same for phonebook transfers. 3. Now getting rid of holidays. The reason that GSM is looking better to me is that I can go out and get a European GSM phone and activate it. If I wanted to purchase another phone it would simply involve swapping SIM cards. No need for any phonebook transfers.
I am debating of getting a Cingular Wireless plan for one year (and paying it myself) to try out the GSM service. If I do that, I will give my phone either to my dad or my mom. I did the figures, and for how much I currently spend on Tracfone for a year (a new phone card every 2 months), if I spend $120 more I will be able to get the 450 anytime and 5000 n&w plan with rollover. Again, I am not sure. I really want to have a national Cingular plan and a Razr phone. But I think it would be expensive for me since I have never bought a wireless plan. I will probably have to pay a huge deposit. I currently get an excellent signal on my Tracfone at home and an excellent signal inside the library (I am in there right now typing this message on my laptop). I have to go outside with my Verizon phone to call and I can be anywhere on my campus (inside or outside) and have a full signal on my Tracfone (since Cingular has panels on the tower at the main entrance to my campus). What is everyone's thoughts on this? Can you get a 1 year contract? I looked online and it says 2 year only. Is this true? TIA.
Gamer, would T-Mobile be an option for you? With their 1000 minutes plan, rollover might not be necessary. Their plans are ONLY 1 year and their CS is pretty good (at least for me anyway). You can get the RAZR from them now. Just a suggestion...
Gamer....I think all the deals through the website are 2 year deals. For 1 year, you'd probably have to call or go into a store. I'm not sure how much more they would charge you for the phone with a 1 year vs. 2 year.
I think I would get a 2 year account with Cingular. This would only be costing me on average $80 more per year than my Tracfone with about 4 times the amount of anytime and 5000 night weekend minutes (Tracfone doesn't have any n&w minutes). I think I am going to get it since Cingular is better inside on my campus than Verizon, Sprint, Nextel, or Alltel. That way, my dad will have my phone (since both Verizon and Cingular are excellent at my house and in my neighborhood) and when he isn't using it, it will be on so it will cut down on our landline bill. I am going to look into it further and make a decision early next week.
Online only two year. I got my youngest daughter's Motorola V400 on a phone plan, last September, while in a company store. Of course, I paid a bit more for the phone (less subsidy). COtech
I don't know. According to the map, there isn't any coverage on my campus (T-Mobile or roaming coverage).
I doubt there are any roaming agreements in Florida for TMobile users. The new agreements now are Minnesota/Wisconsin and Indiana that I know about.
AWE did away with the Holiday's when they came out with the National No Roaming plans last year before the merger, It was always nice to know on a holiday you weren't using any anytime mins, if you have a plan prior to June 1st 04 you still have the free holiday's, if you changed your plan or are on a Cingular plan, then no more free holiday's.
True- Verizon was the only nationwide carrier to still offer free holidays. I'm not happy about it since they are following Cingular now, which is stupid, but I wouldn't consider going anywhere else, partially because nobody comes close to VZW coverage in my area, I'm not lying.
What? Say it isn't so! Verizon dropping their free holidays?? Join the club the guys. I've never had free holidays.
ultimately, I would think you'd want superior coverage as opposed to newer phones. I guess thats why verizon hasn't had to come up with any extra features like rollover, flexible plans, etc. The service sells itself
That may be true for many but not all. For example here in So. Calif every carrier has excellent coverage and there's not really one that stands out with an advantage over the others in that dept. So in this case we can look toward other things like rollover, flexible, data pricing, company discounts, freebies, etc.
