I just logged onto MY account on Verizon. I went to the section about upgrading phones every 2 years. There is now this posting:

    New Every Two® Program*
If you enrolled in the program prior to February 5, 2006 and continued to meet the requirements of the program, you will be eligible for a free phone up to $100, or a credit of up to $100 toward a more expensive phone, when you become eligible for your next New Every Two upgrade (after which time you will be enrolled in the $50/$100 New Every Two program described below).

If you enrolled in the program on February 5, 2006 or after you will qualify for a free phone up to a $50 or $100 value, depending on the monthly access of your plan. If your calling plan monthly access is $79.99 or higher for the entire three months prior to completing your New Every Two phone upgrade, you will get up to $100.00 toward the purchase of a new phone. If your calling plan monthly access was between $34.99 and $79.98 at any time during the three months prior to completing your New Every Two phone upgrade, you will get up to $50.00 toward the purchase of a new phone.
    -------------

This stinks! I am due for my new every 2 next month. This is saying I WILL get the $100 credit THIS time. But then in the future, I'll only get $50 towards it because I am not on a $79.99 or higher plan! What are they trying to do? I thought that was such a great perk. Now they are taking that away also? I was always a big fan of verizons. Have been w/them forever. But this just makes me mad.

It does sound like they want more money out of people to get the higher discount, depending on what your plan is now, it may be worth raising your plan for the last 3 months prior to upgrading to the $79.99 level or just bank the difference for the 3 months & use the cash to buy a better phone on top of the $50.00 discount you get.

So if your on a $59.99 a month plan you can bank the $20.00 a month for 3 months & have $60.00 to put towards a new phone vs paying the money to Verizon for a higher rate plan to get $50.00.

    Make sense?

does that also mean that the 10$ family share lines will only get 50$ towards a new phone?

also, say if your family share plan was 69.98$ but you have two additonal 9.99$ family share add ons (total of 4 lines) to make it a total of 89.97$ but your primary line is still technically 59.99, you'll only get the 50$ credit for all four lines there too, or would all 4 lines get 100 credit?!

    See now it's confusing.

Sometimes I feel really dumb for not doing the new every 2, after 6 years with VZW. But why does it seem like a new phone requires $100 to 200 + worth of accessories. (I like extra battries, sw, antennas and chargers, etc) and then I'm struggling with a few months learning curve using a new interface, which is what is going to happen for sure, since VZW apparently replaced the legacy Nokia UI with their own version. Then there's all the time learning the tricks and debug system.

Looks like the Nokia got replaced with Pantech crap as well. I can't seem to find my way around on a Motorola phone and I've had them before and it just isn't any fun. My brain just doesn't work in a moto-centric way.

I'd be happy just to buy another Nokia 6256i or 3. For my needs, all the new phones look like they are going in a negative UI direction. I have all the technology I need. I'd still prefer some tactile, raised buttons. Ah the old days...

That's ridiculous. One of the big perks of Verizon was the New Every 2 plan, we utilized it on our family share plan like clockwork. The wife's phone, my phone and my oldest daughter's phone.

Realistically now if I want to upgrade the 3 phones it's going to cost me almost double what it used to. :censored:

when I first came to verizon I (we) had

free holidays calls - gone now

2 cent incoming text messages - increased to 15 cents

I was able to change my minute plan WITHOUT having to extend my contract, now I have to add another 2 years every time I want to increase or decrease my minutes.

also verizon had more reasonable plans , from 400, to 500, and 700 minutes... now its either 450 or 900....

also increase the regulatory fee 2 times

and now they are taking away the new every 2....

yep, welcome to verizon wireless, where things get WORSE every year

Do other carriers offer free holiday calling?

Verizon now offers unlimited messaging with anyone in the US on any network. Both TMobile and at&t had text rate increases also.

AFAIK the only other carrier that doesn't require a contract extension after changing a plan is Alltel.

I'm on the 300 Min. plan that meets my calling requirements. This is an unadvertised plan, so maybe there are other unadvertised plans out there as well.

The Regulatory & Administrative charges have only gone up by $0.20 cents over the last 4 years. IMHO this is a small price to pay for the great coverage that they are providing me with.

Verizon did NOT take away their NE2 program. They just changed the amount of the discount to either $50 or $100. depending on what calling plan you are on.

    In addition to Verizon's unlimited messaging plans, they now offer;

Chaperone. ( Locate a family member's phone daytime or nighttime - anytime.)

VZ Navigator (The power of GPS navigation system on your phone.)

Backup Assistant (This "FREE" program for registered my account users, automatically backs up your address book wirelessly.

Verizon's new 30-day test drive program

People on less expensive rate plans don't bring in as much money to VZW, so why should VZW spend the same money on them as on the high-paying clients? Money doesn't come out of nowhere. They're a for-profit company and they're trying to increase their profit, imagine that. If you don't like it, decamp to another provider, but not a single one of them is in the business because they love providing services at cost.

Also to the LRando, if your NE2 is next month (7/07) then you enrolled at latest in NE2 in 9/05 (22 months prior). So you're grandfathered in... you don't reenroll in NE2 every two years, you just get the loyalty benefit every 2 years.

And to tonedeaf: Yes, and when I was a boy, you could make a payphone call for a dime and buy a candy bar for a quarter. Funny how times change, isn't it?

No, all carriers got rid of the free holiday calling.

All carriers offer Unlimited messaging with anyone in the US now, and yes every carrier even Alltel are at .15 cents for SMS.

With AT&T I believe the 1st year you can change your rate plan with no contract extension, after the 1st year you will get an extension.

The 30 day test drive is nice, but if you have a number already & want to keep it, it's a hassle for this program, since the only way you end up without paying anything for the service is porting your number out & that can make it a hassle.
Other then that I think it's a good program & would like to see other carriers offer the "No charge for trying their service" but without the porting restriction.

this does NOT make up for the fact that verizon phones are crippled with bluetooth.

Its an invasion of privacy to have verizon store all your numbers

Bro. Please don't turn this forum into the argument-laden HowardForums where you used to post the same anti-VZW rhetoric over and over again. You've been complaining for YEARS but have not taken any action.

nobody is turning anything into anything. they said verizon is changing the new every 2.

I stated what else verizon has taken away.

then someone said well what about the FREE backup assistant.

All I said was that it doesn't help the fact most phones dont work via bluetooth.

    dude.

If YOU ask THEM to store it (which is what signing up for Backup Assistant means) then no, it's not an invasion of privacy, just like it's not a home invasion when you invite the person in.

If THEY just magically beamed all your numbers out of your cell phone without telling you about it or without giving you a chance to opt out, then that would be an invasion of privacy.

If they took the numbers that YOU stored and used them for, say, marketing, THAT would be an invasion of privacy.

Me, I'll take the crippled Bluetooth, because it comes with really excellent coverage in LA and Orange Counties, coverage that the others can't match yet.

Fire14, I didn't know that at&t lets their customers change their rate plans within the first year without a contract extension. All carriers should offer this. Do you know what their policy is for customers who only sign a 1 year agreement?

I've ported my number in and out of carriers many times, and although I did find it to be a little time consuming depending on the speed at which the number was ported over, I can't honestly say that it has ever been a hassle.

What does "limited" bluetooth have to do with backup assistant?
I find it amusing that after all these years of viewing forums like this one and reading all of the complaints by other posters on the fact that Verizon charges their customers a fee to transfer numbers from one phone to another, that you would complain about a program that now allows you as a customer the ability to transfer your contacts over to any other phone that you get for "FREE"!
There are some people in this world that you just can't satisfy.

Actually RJB, I don't see as how Verizon could advertise this optional service any more than they already have....It's advertised on their website, as well as in all of their brochures. Also when I first signed back up with Verizon, it was the store rep. who informed me of this service. :)

SO its like if you maintain the 2 years of service with Version you get up to $50-$100 on your next phone purchase after your contract is up?

  29. Ellen

    Ellen Guest

Yes, you can apply your NE2 discount after you have maintained service with Verizon for 22 months. When you use the NE2 discount you will be required to sign another 2 year agreement.
