So I traveled to the dominican republic last year and as soon as I landed I was greated by a text from"free" saying the following, welcomeing me to the dominican and explaining the network:
It clearly says that it is a gsm network. Wth? How didm y droid x work on a gsm network?

Ps, sorry for typos, this was written using my droidX

Hmm. There are CDMA networks in Dominican Rep also, maybe it was sent from a CDMA carrier by mistake? You said it was from "Free" but I don't see any operator GSM or CDMA by that name:

    CDG : Worldwide : Worldwide

There's no Droid X that has a GSM radio, so you can't lock onto a GSM network. Strange.
