Has anyone heard the new markets that Verizon is going to launch ev-do in for 2005? It hasn't come to Raleigh and a couple other cities I travel to yet.
The current list of EV-DO markets I've found: Atlanta, GA Austin, TX Baltimore, MD Boston, MA Chicago, IL Cincinnati, OH Columbus, OH Dayton, OH Hartford, CT Houston, TX Jacksonville, FL Kansas City, MO Las Vegas, NV Los Angeles, CA Miami/Fort Lauderdale, FL Milwaukee, WI New Haven, CT New Orleans, LA New York, NY Orlando, FL Philadelphia, PA Phoenix, AZ Pittsburgh, PA Providence, RI San Diego, CA Tampa, FL Washington, DC West Palm Beach, FL Did I miss any?
i think this is the list they rolled out at the end of 2004. anybody know anything about the next rollout?
That's what I said..."current". Some of those were added Feb 1, 2005. As for anything in the future, I don't know.
My roomates uses 1XRTT to download photos he takes to the newspaper server He said that a couple of arenas in Salt Lake had an EV-DO pico cell on cellular (850) ready just for them. He was told that once the Qwest deal was complete in about a month after they should have EV-DO for anyone to use it where Qwest had a network. sounds like the Qwest deal will close around early March, so going by that in April or May we should see EV-DO in Seattle, Portland, Salt Lake City, Denver, Omaha, Boise markets. remember this is a guess not anything into stone.
Agent, are you saying that parts of S.L. already have Ev-Do? I can't wait for the Qwest deal to close and hopefully gain additional voice coverage also.
Thanks WGray! I didn't mean to imply that i wasn't grateful for your post of the current markets....because i didn't know some of them.
I will say yes, but not something builtout nor can we buy yet. There was just one spot for the press in the Salt Palace and Delta Center where my roomate has an EV-DO aircard and can transfer wirelessly with it only in a certain room that has a pico cell is what I understand from him. If he goes anywhere else it is still 1XRTT for now.
Thanks for the info. From my observations, the Delta Center must have an indoor-cellsite. I get very strong readings in the basement(employee area), where Sprint and CricKet are all very weak/unusable or have no service. Cingular also seems to have a site inside the delta center btw.
Even in Logan at the Ellen Eccles theater Verizon, T-Mobile, Cingular blue I know have a micro cell for the building. I don't know about the other providers.
Service Availability: BroadbandAccess and V CAST are available today in the markets listed below. When outside these areas, we offer NationalAccess wireless Internet service at average speeds of 60-80 kbps and bursts up to 144kbps. Cities: Atlanta, GA Austin, TX Baltimore, MD Boston, MA Chicago, IL Cincinnati, OH Columbus, OH Dallas/Fort Worth, TX Dayton, OH Hartford, CT Houston, TX Jacksonville, FL Kansas City, MO Las Vegas, NV Los Angeles, CA Madison, WI Miami/Fort Lauderdale, FL Milwaukee, WI New Haven, CT New Orleans, LA New York, NY/Newark, NJ Orlando, FL Philadelphia, PA Phoenix, AZ Pittsburgh, PA Providence, RI San Diego, CA St. Petersburg/West Palm Beach, FL Tampa, FL Washington, DC Looks like you just missed two: dallas/fort worth, tx and madison,wi
I think the service in Columbus is pretty new. I've only been bombarded with the annoying "broadband in a taxi with your VZW PC card" ads for about 4 weeks now.
Is this a movie theater or something bigger? The Delta Center is the only public place I've 'seen' repeaters inside a building so far in Salt Lake. The E Center in West Valley might also have a VZW repeater inside, didn't confirm this yet though. Interesting thing is that calls originated on Verizon's Delta Center system show up as "Ogden, UT" on the detailed call list on my bill...why would this be?
I live in Knoxville, TN where Verizon has no PCS spectrum and Cingular/AT&T is camping on 60Mhz... We won't be seeing EV-DO here on Verizon for awhile, at least until Cingular is forced to divest some of their spectrum.
Hey Crew! I live on the east benches near Big Cottonwood Canyon, and I just recieved my EVDO Phone (e815) For Verizon, I use the dial-up through bluetooth, and on my 3rd connection, I was downloading as a constant 417Kbps!! It was a one time shot, I don't know how it happened, but wow, it was magic! Anyone know how this might have happened? It was a file download, and I did not have any web accelerators going. Please advise!
Wow, Tom, Welcome to Wireless Advisor! I live very close to you in Willow Creek and have an E815 as well. 417Kbps? That's fast for a 1x connection!
If you are not in an evdo area, then that connection speed was most likely the speed between your phone and the pc, not your phone and the network/internet.
Yeah, my laptop alyways says something like 425 kb/s when i tether it. Though the actual connection speed is about 56kb/s
