I was reading an article (op-ed) on The Verge about the shifting trend from using phone specs to lure and keep customers to providing unique add-ons. Part of the article states: "Apple's reported Lightning headphones plan is ... a deliberate ploy to keep iPhone users locked in."

In my mind, it seemed Android's idea is to lure you to an vacation island getaway where you just don't want to leave as opposed to Apple's approach epitomized in the ideal of the Eagle's "Hotel California" where you can't leave.
