First of all I just want to say that I love my phone! But for some reason after coming home from a long day my battery was completely dead. So I plugged it in. Right! But after its been in the charger for 2 hours it hasnÕt even charged and my phone it would only go on for about 2 seconds then turn off and then it would turn on again for another 2 seconds and then turn off. The charger doesnÕt even start up that little charging menu. I will probably go to the Verizon store on Monday to get them to change it! (Yay for insurance!) :D

That will probably be your best bet, have you tried starting the phone while it is plugged in to the charger? I don't know what type of charger this phone comes with, but if it is a desktop charger try wiping off the contacts, I had an LG that would not charge and cleaning those with a dry rag/t-shirt helped..If it's a travel type charger I'd just take it back to VZW and get a new one.

does your screen flash on and off??? mine does...

im having trouble with the charging too....i havent been able to use my phone for three days now the first day i started to charge it like normal and after like 4hrs on the charger i noticed the screen was blinking i took it off the charger and tried to turn it on and it came on for a sec. and turned right back off!! i was like hmm...maybe it wasnt hooked up right...well after taking it off the charger again it wouldnt even turn on....and still did the flashing thing while plugged in...i cant even turn it on while its plugged in...it just flashes...took it to radio shack and they said they just took out the batt. and it was charging fine(i never saw it charging just assumed it needed the batt. reset or whatever) got back home an hour away and plug it in.....nothing just the flashing....took the batt. out and let it sit for 12hrs or so...plugged it in and still just flashes...need to take it back to RS but thats so far away*sigh*

let me know if you find something out

I would be having a panic attack if my phone wouldn't turn on. Maybe it was defective. Atleast you have insurance, very smart.

If you have insurance you'll have nothing to worry about, just get the phone replaced and don't stress yourself trying to fix the one you have.

People will probably want to get the insurance as an added piece of mind.

i dont know people... so far the v710 seems like another POS from Motorola. i have been playing around with one in-store and its having all sorts of issues. it wont charge, drops calls, and the screen blanks out. so, i am sending the 710s in stock back to our office with a note stating that i wont sell them as i did with the t720 and t730s. i refuse to sell a phone to customers just so they can come back twice a month with some sort of issue. ill talk them into a samsung or LG instead so they can be trouble free and happy.

I posted a thread last Wednesday about this problem - I had the same problem with my phone.

    http://www.wirelessadvisor.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3149

I got a new phone last Wednesday and have used my phone for about 4 hours of talk time with Bluetooth and have had no problems so far, but I can't say I'm not a little nervous still.

Well I went to the Verizon store and thy had this huge line for technical service and then I told one of the workers that I just got the v710 Wednesday and it wasn't turning on. So I was like last in line and he helped me first! :D He said that they did a test in the back and he said that the phone had bad wiring. So I got my new phone and I can say I'm happy (considering that my old screen already had scratches from the number pad) Thanks for your help!

My v710, which works fine, does the same thing. Since battery meters work by measuring the output of the battery, and chargers usually work by applying an input across the same terminals, you usually can't trust a meter when a battery is being charged (some smart batteries are exceptions to that). If you're not seeing other battery problems, I wouldn't worry about this symptom alone.

It could even be a more accurate measure, since mine was showing all bars after a full days use, and it went to two bars when I started to charge it, which is a much more reasonable state.

As others have observed, the meter is rather misleading in normal use, and stays at six bars (full) until the phone has only a few hours left to run. Hopefully that's something they'll fix in a software update.

I dont think it matters whether you have insurance or not. The phone is brand new. If it dies it should be warrantied. Verizon should replace it as an authorized dealer for Motorola.

well instead of charging the phone the charger seemed to completely drain it....verizon couldnt even get it to charge so now im on to phone number 3 :) which seems to be doing just fine....they finally switched not only the phone but the charger...so im hoping the charger was what was causing the problems....i guess time will tell
