Hi. I'm curious if it is possible to use my V710 as a modem for my labtop? Let's assume I have the blutooth USB adaptor for the labtop, can I surf the web through my phone's connection to MobileOffice or ExpressNetwork via bluetooth (in case there's no Wi-Fi available)? Has anyone tried it? TIA

You can do it without Mobile Office or Express Network. Why pay for something you don't need.

Use the phone and Verizon as your ISP.

Set up a Bluetooth partnership between the computer and phone (you will need that Bluetooth adaptor -- Make sure the partnership is a DUN profile)

set the phone to dial #777
(don't have the computer wait for a dial tone)
Set your user name to YOURPHONENUMBER@vzw3g
    Set your password to "vzw"

Tried that and my phone just says Calling... but that's it.

I must be close. Any thoughts?

    Thanks,

Mine was doing the "Calling" thing the other night and never connected until I realized that I hadn't actually bonded the phone to the BT adapter. When I looked at my phone screen, it was still waiting for me to confirm the PIN and connect the two units. Once I remembered to do that, it worked fine.

Sorry for the seemingly stupid question, but I don't see where to turn off wait for dial tone.

I'm running Win XP Pro and have succesfully paired my phone with my Sony Vaio laptop. Also using a Sony BT adapter.

The items show up in Bluespace and DUN is present. I created a new connection, to dial #777 using "my number"@vzw3g.com and vzw as the pass.

I don't see the wait for dial tone check box. The device manager says standard BT modem and responds with Motorola v710 when I query it.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Right-click on My Computer, go to Manage. Click on Device Manager, open Modems (your v710 must be connected). Double-click on the v710 to bring up properties. Click the Modem tab and there should be a check box for Wait for Dial Tone.

I tried this without unchecking the Wait for Dial Tone box and it still worked fine, so that step may not be necessary.

As I mentioned it has Standard BT Modem (although queried says Motorola v710).

Properties->Modem shows wait for dial tone but it's grayed out (unavailable). It is unchecked however.

When you try to connect, does the phone actually say Calling? Or does it never get that far?

Check your dialing rules, it could be set to dial an area code. This would cause it to dial incorrectly.

Good thought but no dice - no dialing rules applied.

VZW might have turned off your 1x data. I just got a v710 and i had to call them to have it turned on. Get it now wasnt working. When they turned it on, my phone connects now, and i can use it as a bluetooth modem.

Do you have the newest AC ? AC II ? If you do then I'm not sure why that is.

If you look at the last page of the newest Americas Choice brochure (what we call AC II) then you will see that it expressly states : "Mobile office kits, pc cards, pdas, or other wireless modem devices may not be used for internet access without a subsciption to select VzAccess plans."

To me, that means one can't connect (even to qnc) unless you subscribe.

Huh? I'll have to check that out on monday with our Rep. I wonder why the brochure states that? I've been holding onto my older AC plan just for that reason.

Yea, i'm not sure, it just works. I have not gotten my bill yet though, I hope I dont have all kinds of data charges, although I woudlnt think theyd let you use it without subscribing, and then charge you. Ive heard others have been doing it without charges.

    I haven't been charged.

If you cant connect, you may have to call CS and have it 'activated' tell them you cant send pix messages, and they will have to turn it on for you. =p

As for the brochure, they have to say that for legal purposes...
