I keep reading about ability to flash software from v6oi...but how could ui add poly ringtones by flashing? One more question, won't motorola get rid of the ugly v60 backlight?
Also, i hope the rings are much louder compared to other moto poly ringer phone, such as the c332 and 720.
You could probably flash a v60i to v60x firmware, but it won't support any of the added hardware related features like 1X, GIN, aGPS, etc. I haven't heard anything about the backlight. I'm kinda hoping it's bright blue like the new 120e's.
No flashing won't add poly ringtones or really any of the new features for the x... the only thing it could do is add get it now for mono rings and games.... I really hope that the back light is blue, also I hope that there is a exchange promo or somehting where we can trade the i in for the x... I have 20 months before I can upgrade and don't want to pay full price for the phone.... The only reason I think that they may have a promo is to promote GIN and PTT...
get it now does not support tone generated ringtones, they're all plolyphonic. also, there's no physical memory on the 60i to store anything like that, so you wouldn't be able to do that. Rumors of the blue backlight are most likely correct, that seems to be the directs phones are going in now (Blue LEDs, etc.) I HIGHLY doubt they'll let 60i users upgrade to the x. They didn't let the c upgrade to the i, and they could give a rats ___ if you have E911 on your phone (although the FCC is hard about it)
Enhanced 911 (or E911) is a new feature that the FCC has made mandatory that all cell phones have. The service was designed to determine your exact (more or less) geographic location when you make an emergency call (to 911). Different carriers use the feature in different ways. Verizon Wireless uses GPS. It utilizes a special chip inside the phone which allows the phone to take advantage of GPS (Global Positioning Satellites/Service) which is used in certain navigation systems (OnStar, etc.) to determine your location. Other carriers have alternate means of achieving this, including determining the tower you are using during the call, and timing the signal relay time between your phone and the tower. This way is much less accurate however, and GPS has many other advantages. Most Verizon phones give you the option to keep your location "ON" or "EMERGENCY ONLY". When it is "ON" the phone's battery will be drained more quickly, but it will allow other applications on the phone (like Vindigo) to determine your location for walking/driving directions to the closest whatever.
