Those are some good reasons to return it. I saw the 6230 yesterday at Wal-Mart, and it was pretty small. I am tempted to get one but my hands cramped up when I had my s56, which was very small too. But I need to lie low as X-Mas is comming, and my mom & her boyfriend want to a couple of phones to my accounts for his mother, and one for my sister.
When I first saw it, it was wider than I had pictured it. The guy at the store tried selling me his pitch on why it's one of the better phones to be released in some time. He remarked about the all metal construction and that the keys were laser cut instead of being plastic.
I've just been to the Cingular store to check out the V3 and it's nowehere near as nice in the flesh as it looks it the adverts. It's way wider than I thought it would be, and the screen resolution isn't great either. As for the laser cut keypad, yeah it looks cool, but that is a novelty that will wear off very quickly so, for $500, it ain't woth it by a long shot
How about worth 369.00 at Amazon after rebates? It's getting closer.. :browani: Actually if I was in the market, I would probably go V551 for 49.00 at Best Buy.
OK, after hacking the heck out of my phone to override all the limitations Cingular puts on their phones, I was able to force my v551 to T-Mobile. Comparing both phones in engineering mode, the v551 was about 3-5 db's better at pulling in the TM signal than the v600 was.
This is attributed to the V600 having an issue with the RF board. My Cingular corporate B2B rep says that the V600 was discontinued by Cingular, but he did not elaborate why. After I dug around on the Internet (thanks, Google!) I found that there's an issue with the V600's RF board and Cingular's eGSM850 service. Now if only I could find the blasted article that I read, I could back up my story....can't seem to find the link now! D'OH!
The V3 is meant for looks, and meant for attracting attention. So my logic...I got the V551, more practical for me. Now my wife, who could give a hoot about features, would rather find more practicality in terms of stylish looks. So, made sense I buy it for her as a gift for Christmas. Hope she likes it and for $299 after rebates from Wirefly.com, I hope its worth it. I've paid similar amounts with no rebates for "bricks" when cellular phones were still a novelty item. Since I don't own it, I feel more "comfortable" buying it as a gift. Kind of like buying jewelry, who the heck would spend 1000 bucks on jewelry for themsevles, right? The V600 is defnitely a cool looking phone, but the V551 aint no ugly duckling either.
