I have videos on my computer that I have converted into .3gp format. They uploaded to my phone with no problem. The lengths vary, but all are over 3 minutes or so. They start playing perfectly fine, video/audio is there...but after 54 seconds, the clip stops, and it reverts me back to the home screen. Has anyone had this happen, or know how to remedy this?

I got a 5 min clip to play just fine using PT ver 4. I tried to import an 8 min clip and the app tells me its too big... the time line shows out into the hours, so it must be the fact that its pointing to the onboard memory? I have a 512meg MSD card in it, but looks like you can only "move" the file after its been copied locally. Anyone know of a way to convert video files direct to the ext memory, and not be stuck with the onboard size limitation? I have already set up all of the parameters that I could find to point to the ext memory and not onboard.

    Thanks in advance

Well, I found my problem. Maybe u can check ur phone. When u play a movie, let it run WITHOUT expanding into full screen mode, and see how long it lasts. When I expand the video into full screen, i can play any size clip with no probs. Just curious if is a glitch on my phone or what. Just thinkin too, it could have something to do with my screen saver set at 1 minute (even though the screen saver only works with cable plugged in)... oh well no biggie

As for your question, I can copy DIRECTLY to the card 2 ways. Using either MPT, you can point it to MMC1 (your removeable card) or in BitPim.

As a heads up, I read somewhere on www.motov3m.com that when the phone formats the card, you can only use the root directory for so many file transfers or something. So I changed my root folders for my pix, flix, and audio...per the instructions on the site above. I have a 1GB card and can transfer any size file without a problem. The only problems I run into is making sure the 3GP Converter successfully converts my .wmv's into .3gp's

Thanks for your input, I think my question really is how do I use MPT to convert and transfer files that are larger than my internal memory. I am comfortable with making files externally and then copying them over, but was curious if there was a setting on the phone or in MPT that allowed me to work withi files directly to my memory card. I already own MPT so didnt want to have to buy another product to work on larger files. I dont see a way in the application to change the root directory from its default.

When you are in MPT and u go into MultiMedia Studio, go to file transfer studio, on the left pane is your computer files, and on the right pane is your phone files...correct? If so, on the right pane, use the "up folder" and go to where you see the following folders; audio, mixedmedia, MMC(removeable), picture, ringtone, video, vst.

Once you see that, open up the MMC folder...thats your flash card. Then pick whatever video file you have ready to transfer and transfer directly to that MMC9removeable) folder. That copies directly to the card, you wont have to move any files from phone to card.

Let me know how that goes.

    Were getting closer :).

File studio works fine, I have it configured with my targets on the left and my MMC (removeable)on the right, when I drop down to the Video Studio to grab a file to recode to .gp is when I get the message that says the File is too big to be loaded. I am presuming its because its defaulting to the onboard memory and not the MMC? I can open and recode smaller files just fine, its just the larger ones (50 megs+) that this issue arrises. I can clearly see that the time line goes on for hours, so have to believe they wrote the application to support larger files, how one changes the root so Video Studio sees the default path to the MMC I think is the key... still looking at all the angles .

    Thanks again

Hmmm... I dont use MPT to convert movies. Are you using it to convert? or to crop and chop down? I use 3GP Converter to convert, and then I just send that video to my phone the way I described earlier. You can download 3GP Converter for free at www.motov3m.com. I havent tried cropping videos in MPT, I have only cropped ringtones.

Just trying to fill in the blanks, haha. If you convert your vids into 3gp using another program, and THEN open those up in MPT and the are too big, im not sure howto fix that.

Thanks for the input, Ill figure it out. MPT Video Studio has a great recoder, which is automatic and seems to do a very nice job, its just easy to have it all under one application if I can.

I had been using MPT's Video Studio, when you drag and drop your .mp4 etc into the timeline edit window and then say "transfer to phone" it will automatically apply the right settings, size, bitrate, file type etc that your specific phone needs. Its really accurate and fast, but I just downloaded 3GP_converter and that seems to do what I was needing so thanks again for the tip. :)

Ok good, when I had tried bringing in any video file BESIDES a 3gp, and tried to transfer to phone, it would say incorrect file type and wouldnt do any conversion for me. Take care

Try copying the file directly to the transflash card root directory. This has worked for me. Even MPT says that the file is too large at a certain point. If you just copy directly to transflash, I have been able to put entire movies on my phone. I had Saw 2 on there, and it was able to play the whole thing with no problem. Sometimes tweaking the 3gp conversion settings is necessary as well to get good playback, and starting out with a decent file is important as well.

Tested and works. As said, some tweaking is necessary (it's going to depend on what satisfies you, so no real guidelines as to what values to enter)
