I was just reading an article explaining how to use Samsung Smart Switch. Seeing as I've never read any user posts about it, I thought I write about my own experience. Why I installed: In prep for my new phone, I wanted to try this supposedly "all encompassing" solution for backing and a Samsung smartphone. (Supposedly, this can be used for backing up iphones too!) How long did the backup take: In first iteration, I asked it to back up my 64GB MicroSD as well. I know that was completely unnecessary but I wanted to see what happened. It took way too long so I cancelled the operation. Next, I opt'd to backup just the internal memory. That started to work ok but then at the 10% mark, it bombed saying there wasn't enough space for the back. I went into the phone and deleted all the cached data, then tried again. It took about 20 minutes to back up. What's the value: Besides being able to restore a crashed system, this is also marketed as a means of moving files to a new phone. (Hence the reason for my installing it.) Mess-ups: None. After performing the backup, it displays the categories of data that it backed up and allows the user to selectively choose which data to restore. If you have multiple backup sessions, you can choose the session before choosing the data. Uncertainties: I use Password Safe Pro to store all my passwords. It creates a file that can be backed up to various sites or on the device itself. I plan on performing one final backup and storing it before I get the new device. I also use a couple note-jotter apps. Not sure that data got backed up, so I'll be performing a manual backup of those as well.
