I tried out Sprint last year with a Mogul. Long story short, I cancelled the service but never sent the phone back, so I still have a Mogul. I recently moved and would like to give Sprint another try (I'm now in a big city, not rural area so I think the coverage problems I was having won't be an issue now). Is there any way to get SERO on my existing phone? I know that they won't activate it except with a new purchase, but can I order SERO with one of the freebie phones and then have Sprint activate my Mogul on the account?
It depends. If you left under not so good terms, and left an outstanding bill unpaid Sprint may have the phone blacklisted, and then you may not be able to activate it at all. -Jay
I did pay the outstanding bill from them, so I don't think the phone should be blacklisted. Can I call customer service to double-check? I take it that as long as the Mogul can be activated, it'll work with SERO?
If you call Sprint they should be able to tell you if the phone is able to be activated on their network or not. Have the IMEI number off the phone (usually on a sticker under the battery) ready when you call. -Jay
Sprint verified that the ESN can be activated on their network. Will I mess up the SERO billing if I switch phones right away? I'm worried that I'll get charged full price for the "freebie" phone, or that I'll get hit with a ETC. Can anyone verify that what I want to do is allowed?
Once you get activated and set up on a SERO plan I don't see any reason why you wouldn't be able to switch phones as long as the phones are the same type (ie. basic vision or power vision). But the Mogul is a PDA/Smart phone and probably requires a different data plan than the freebie phone and type of SERO plan that you would get. If that is the case then you would have to pay more money and might lose that plan. Since I've never had a PDA/Smart phone myself I am not entirely familiar with how the process works but I'm sure Anthromatt would know.
Honestly... If you are looking for the least amount of hassle I recommend that you do the following: 1. Order a new line with SERO and get a brand new phone with the plan. 2. Get rid of the old phone. Sell it on ebay. Sell it to a friend. Just get rid of it. Trying to start a SERO line with an older piece of equipment is probably possible... but from my experiences with Sprint CS you are likely to run into a host of problems in doing so. Again, I'm sure it's possible... but it can be such a pain. Just a word to the wise... take it with however many grains of salt you wish.
You should be able to sign up for SERO with a power vision phone and then activate the Mogul. If your bill gets messed up they should be able to adjust it.
the only issue i can see with your worries about paying full price for the phone is that if there is a mail in rebate on the freebie phone......because if you submit that application and they check your account and the freebie phone isnt there but rather is a Mogul then you might not get the rebate Sprin still offers the Mogul so if the ESN is clear like Sprint has said you could make this swap online......the have an ESN swapper now......
