since even GSM will eventually end up CDMA, I just don't get how this "discussion" has lasted so long. http://news.com.com/2009-1033-271750.html?legacy=cnet http://www.3gnewsroom.com/html/network/index.shtml Excerpt from above: <u>Wideband CDMA (W-CDMA)</u> W-CDMA, also known as CDMA Direct Spread, is a 3G radio transmission technology favored by Europe. It can be built upon existing GSM networks and represents the obvious next step for current system operators. As such, it is expected to gain widespread acceptance in Asia, where GSM systems are prevalent.
kevinjames i was just about to say that...you took the words right out of my mouth...one little addition...its a sad note but i feel i must include it ohh and one thing cdmaone(is-95b) is a 2.5g technology.... IN THE END..... They will all PAY ROYALTIES to QUALCOMM!!!!!!!! =(
You know what, the one thing that realy matters to me is that CDMA coverage is better than GSM coverage in this country right now. I live and travel in the Northeast US and well, CDMA works best for me. When GSM coverage catches up to were I need it...I may switch.
hehe it will be funny cause by the time they catch up with gsm here...most of europe and asia will be using WCDMA...and they will probabily make WCDMA/CDMA phones since its much easier to intergrate...
Codepyro, Qualcomm is working on chipsets to support CDMA2000/wCDMA. I would look for Samsung, and LG to be the first to bring out phones with dual system capability. Korea will have wCDMA operational at roughly the same time that they commercialize EV-DV. Both SK Telecom and Freetel will need phones that work on both of their services.
