So supposed I buy a used Sprint phone from eBay or the like. What would I do to make it work? With T-Mobile, I would just switch the SIM card and be done. I assume that I would have to call Sprint customer service (do I have enough time in my life for that?), but this makes me wonder if Sprint charges a fee when you switch phones. Is there such a fee or am I just paranoid?

Most reps I've talked to on the phone will do it for free with some coaxing. Another avenue I've heard success with is at the 3rd party retailers. If you buy a used phone through them, they might be able to take care of the transfer for you.

I've never paid the $18 (formerly $36) when upgrading to a new phone. It's fairly easy to get it waived.

I think the only time you pay an $18 charge is when setting up an account - I've paid it when I added a new line, but never paid it when I just changed phones. - sheureka

however........one thing that we've realized about Sprint is that if you are say 20 months through your 24 month contract and your phone breaks and you need a phone while you wait for your upgrade to be up............you get the phone from ebay and switch it and Sprint has been known to take away the upgrade credits
