I just went to my local Verizon store (NJ) yesterday where I am buddies with the manager. He told me that 3 phones are due to hit their stores within the next 2 weeks. The 3 phones are: 1.) Audiovox 9500 - color phone 2.) Motorola v60e - color v-phone 3.) Kyocera 7135 - Built-in Palm organizer The LG VX-4400 is expected to hit the stores before Christmas, however the Samsung A530 MAY NOT reach the stores until January.... I personally would like to compare the LG and Samsung color phones side-by-side before deciding on one. Anyone with more info. on Verizon's new phones, please let us know! Thanks!
Corey: Yes, my buddy confirmed that the Motorola v60e does indeed have a color screen. However he did not seem too excited about it, said that it was basically the "same s***" My guess is that it does not have a TFT screen, which produces more brilliant images than the common STN color screen. Besides, the viewing area of the v-series phones is too small to fully take advantage of color capability. I personally am waiting to compare the LG VX-4400 and the Samsung A530, but may pass on both in favor of newer models (hopefully with 65K TFT color screen/external color LCD/40-chord polyphonic ringtones/built-in camera) that may/may not debut in 1st Qtr. 2003 (Verizon).
Color with the same small inner LCD? Man, all my other sources said the screen was supposed to be larger, around the size of the T720's. I think the VX-4400 and a530 should be good, though I wish the a530 looked more like the a500. I just don't think either of them compare to the V60e. I mean, this phone is supposed to be all I've been waiting for in terms of changes to the V60c/i. A lot of people say "Yeah it's bullsh*t because it's not much changed from the V60i" but why would they change from an award-winning look, just to take the risk of it not working, when they could simply improve? I hope the screen is actually larger.
Anonymous or Mulsanne, I posted the following thread in the Motorola forum and would appreciate if you could ask your buddy which specs below are correct especially suggested pricing, talk time, standby time, external display (1 or 2 lines), color or grayscale with selectable color background screen, 2 way or 4 way navigation button? Thanks for sharing the news with us. *** Motorola v60e Sightings There have been various Motorola v60e sightings reported within the last week by various posters. 1. One Houston, TX area VZW store sales rep (10/30) said color screen, new navigation button, larger external display, talk time 125 minutes, initial v60e pricing about $150 more than the v60i, and a little bulkier than the v60i (These were pre-production models so things may change). 2. Another VZW store sales rep (10/30) saw a v60e with a non-color display. 3. Another poster (10/28) was in a Washington D.C. VZW store and saw a Motorola rep with a v60e with the following features: color screen, 2 line external display with light blue backlight, chrome/mirror like finish on front & back, 4 way arrow navigation button, planned release before Thanksgiving. 4. A third VZW dealer (10/30) saw a highlights sheet for the v60e that mentioned CDMA2000 1x and e911. This person also mentioned 6 other new VZW models (LG VX200, LG VX4400, Samsung Jupiter, Audiovox 9500, Motorola 120e, Kyocera 7135). 5. Finally, someone had mentioned a new battery that is an update to the Lithium Ion battery which will become the Motorola standard and is supposed to last a lot longer. Motorola had announced this phone back on 7/16/02 with its Q2 press release "Motorola Reports Second Quarter Financial Results". It was called the v60x back then but the name has supposedly been changed to the v60e probably to reflect the e911 capability and compliance with the FCC mandate. The press release said ...To help carriers comply with E911 service regulations that mandate integration of geographical location technologies into wireless networks and handsets at local, regional and national public safety levels, Motorola will start to ship, in the second half of 2002, a full complement of Assisted Global Positioning System (A-GPS) CDMA1X products. The V120e and the T720 will start to ship in the third quarter, and the V60x will start to ship in the fourth quarter. The specs that had been reported back in August by another poster were as follows: The v60e (CDMA: Verizon & Alltel): -- CDMA2000 1x -- Burst speed to 288 Kb/s -- GPS capable -- J2ME & Brew Capable -- E-911 ready -- Stub antenna (Non-extending) -- Internal screen similar to the quality of the v66 -- Screen background color selectable: Green, Red or Blue Indiglo -- Downloadable ringtone capability -- Individual ringstyle: choose melody for specific incoming caller IDs -- Retains compatibility with all accessories and v60i faceplates Has anyone else actually seen the v60e or a recent spec sheet? What was the suggested pricing/release date/talk time/standby time/external display (1 or 2 lines)/color or grayscale with selectable color background screen/2 way or 4 way navigation button? Will the v60e be compatible with Verizon's new full duplex PTT (Push-to-Talk) feature since this is a CDMA2000 1x phone? According to other posters VZW PTT (vendor is Winphoria Networks of Tewksbury, MA) has been alpha tested in TX & NJ for a few months, beta tested in NY since September, had a soft launch in October, and forecasts a hard launch in Q1 2003. Thanks for your help.
why motorola would spend that much money on R&D, tooling, etc. to create the T720 and then basically kill the market by releasing a V60 with the same features is beyond me. I think the reports about multicolored backlights are more accurate.
The market for the T720 will not be killed. The T720 is $250 with a $100 rebate (you can get it for $199 with a $100 rebate at RadioShack) and the V60e will be $400. They are going to be on completely different levels, because most people aren't going to spend $400 for a phone, and will just go for the T720 or the V60i (if the V60i is still there). The V60e would be for another class of people, sort of like all those people who had the V70 when it first came out at $499. The T720 is going to soon be replaced by the T725 anyways.
I don't think you can equate the v60e with the V70. The V70 is more of a fashion statement than a functional phone, in my opinion. If the V60e is like a T720 in a V60 shell, then it will be very functional. I just don't think Motorola would be dumb enough to release two highly similar phones, even if their retail prices differ by $100. Incidentally, I got my T720 for $80.
If you're paying $400 for any phone, it's a fashion phone. No phone, including the V70 and V60e, at $400 has anything special that a $200 or $100 phone doesn't have. Everybody payed hundreds for the first V60s because they were the hot new item, not because they did something special. Hell, my LG-TM510 does as much as/more than the V60. People spending $400 for a V60e are doing it because it looks good to them. It's a fashion phone, just like the V70.
Whoever said you can view these phones on phonescoop is a liar cause the V60e is not on their. Just wanted to let you know.
Haven't heard anything about a v60e, but have the v60x. Look for that and the Kyocera 7135 in January. I'm in the south region... not sure if northern region gets different phones but I wouldn't think so.
thats because the v60e does not exist the v60x and v60e were simply disputed titles the final names seems to be the v60x
