I have all the codes to unlock my Motorola W315. My question is what exactly do I need to do now that I have the codes?
Alltel probably will not tell you how to unlock one of their Simple Freedom phones. Why would they lock it in the first place? The best thing to do would be to Google "Unlock Simple Freedon Phone" or something like that. There are other forums such as this which I'm not allowed to name here that have threads addressing this exact issue.
Stupid question here, but I thought CDMA phones were not locked because the carrier could theoretically look up the phone's ESN and see if they sold it new, and refuse to activate it if they choose. -Jay
From what I've heard on the Alltel forums, the Simple Freedom phones are locked to SF; also, neither SF nor Alltel will unlock these SF phones.
Wirelessly posted (Q's Mobile Device: Opera/8.01 (J2ME/MIDP; Opera Mini/3.0.6306/1558; en; U; ssr)) If i'm not mistaken, sprint and metropcs both lock their devices... Also these companies will only activate phones whose ESN's are in their respective databases.
OK, I'm not sure if I was misunderstood, but Simple Freedom has already given me the subsidy code that gets into the main programming menus. I'm simply asking once I have this information is that all I need to do to the phone is enter these codes when prompted (which is everytime I enter the programming menu) or is there a procedure to permanetly unlock the phone (until activated through a different service)? Thanks for any and all help.
If you can get to an option to change the SPC, set it to six zeros and you will have an unlocked phone.
It depends on what you want to do. You can call Alltel and have them add that esn an account there, or Verizon. Just call them up and say you want to change the phone on your account, they will tell you what to do, but will likely give you the default code and not simple freedoms. Just put in the code you have instead of the default when you do it.
I found the SPC code and entered all zeros and my phone is now unlocked because when I get to the programming menu, it no longer asks me for a subsidy code. Thanks SOOOO much for your help.
The problem, of course, is that Simple Freedom is Wal-Mart's pre-paid MVNO on Alltel's network, so a Simple Freedom phone probably will not work on any other network, even with the SPC, because it has all manner of weird pre-paid software in it. You might be able to get it reflashed but I doubt that would work 100%.
I have seen a number of reports that indicate Simple Freedom phones work pretty well as Alltel phones even without the reflash. Unlike Tracfone and Net10 there is very little weird about Simple Freedom phones except that they are locked. As long as you can get the subsidy code to program them you're good to go.
