Hi, could you help me to unlock a Nokia 3220b? IMEI #: ( deleted ) Country where phone is locked to: California, USA XE Mobile
I am in the same boat. Have a Nokia 3220b with ATT/Cingular. Trying to unlock. Can someone assist? Thanks.
http://unlock.nokiafree.org/dct4.php Use asic 6 for GEN, ASIC 2 for model. If the code doesn't work, don't try again! AT&T keeps improving the locking algorithms on the phones, so some are not unlockable at all.
DMAPR...Couple questions. Should the SIM card should be left in or out? I heard it should be left in. Which of the unlock codes should I use? Out of 5 tries, I have 3 left. So I am a bit concerned. I have second 3220b and I tried 5 times a couple of weeks ago so I guess I have to find someone with a cable and software to uinlock that phone. Any ideas how best to find someone? Thanks alot.
I'm afraid it's been a while and I'm out of date with these. When I was unlocking phones like 6200, 6820, 3100, 3120, 6010 it didn't matter whether the SIM was in or out and codes #1 and #7 worked just fine. Nowadays they changed so many things it's hard to tell. Some of those phones can't be unlocked even with the hardware. The safest way is always trying to get the code out of AT&T. As for finding the "cable unlockers" there's iunlock.com but their services are not the cheapest.
They typically give the code for owners of Cingular/AT&T devices (not AT&T Wireless devices). The rules are that you have a phone for 90 days or more on an account in good standing — then you can just call CS and ask for the unlock code. If they ask why, tell them you're going to another country and don't want to pay roaming fees. You can look up which countries are not using 900MHz frequency absent in your phone here.
DMAPR ... Thanks. I tried ATT/Cingular with one of the phone. They used 4 tries and then I used one so I believe that phone can now only be unlocked with a cable. The second 3220b has 1 or 2 tries on it so I want to be real careful with that one. Should I try Nokia?:loony:
Nokia won't give you the subsidy unlock code because it is up to the carrier to determine if you've met their requirements for receiving it. Nokia would likely just refer you back to at&t.
HME83 ... Thanks for the info. This needs more thought on how to proceed. On a different note ...you have a real cool quote. TP
Thank you twisted pear. I was struck by it on a recent trip, so I guess it is a "souvenir". Would you qualify to receive the subsidy unlock code from at&t, but are hesitant because of your experience with the other 3220? If so - understandable - and what I would suggest is log in to your on-line account at at&t. Use the "contact us" link to send them an e-mail with your account particulars and the phone's IMEI #. I received a subsidy unlock code from them last spring in this manner. If you qualify, they will e-mail you the code within 3 - 5 business days along with instructions for using it. I put more faith in obtaining it this way, personally. I've seen instances where users have contacted customer service by phone, and I'm not convinced that the customer care rep understands what is being requested and then it's sounded to me like they've probably provided the customer with their PUK code instead. To my knowledge, even if you call customer care, they will complete a form to request the subsidy unlock code from the appropriate department (and they will likely ask many of the questions indicated by dmapr) - it takes 3 - 5 days for a response to the request, and it should have been e-mailed to you. Is this what happened when at&t "used" 4 of your 5 tries on the other 3220? If you were simply visiting with the customer care rep that you initially contacted to obtain the code (and on the same phone call), I believe they did not understand which code you were after.
