A reminder that the forum rules forbid the posting of ESN, IMEI or other serial numbers in public forums.

There are many places that sell unlocking services; we don't endorse any of them, and I don't think there's a free unlocking service for Samsungs the way there is for Nokias. You should call your provider and ask for the code.

Phones you get from wireless carriers are locked to work only with that company's network, for example, a phone from Cingular cannot be used with T-Mobile and vice versa even though the two networks use the same technology. Unlocking removes this restriction, so you can in principle use a Cingular or T-Mobile phone on each other's network or for that matter, on any GSM network in the world as long as your phone supports those frequencies.

Usually, you can get the unlock code from your carrier for free if you have been a customer for about 3 months and have been good about paying the balance on your account. Otherwise, there are business establishments that will unlock your phone for a fee.

    Folks,

The unlock code is unique to each handset. The code for one person's D807 will be different to the code for any other person's D807. It is based on your phone's serial number. That is why you have two options:

    1. Call your carrier and ask for the unlock code
    2. Pay one of the many businesses that unlock GSM telephones to do it for you.

In either case you are assuming all the risk yourself.

DO NOT post your serial number (IMEI, ESN, whatever) in this forum -- the post will be erased and you will be gone.

There's a third option for D807 that allows one to "unlock" it enough that it'll accept a different SIM, the solution has been posted several times on various forums (including Cingular), eBay how-tos, etc. It doesn't require one's IMEI, only a different provider's SIM and a secret code for entering the hidden menu. I don't know if it unlocks for just that one SIM or for all SIMs from that provider, but it works -- I verified it on my girlfriend's D807. If it's acceptable, I can post the search one needs to feed into Google :)

Well, SIM-locking is locking a phone so it will only accept a certain provider's SIM, not a particular SIM on that provider -- so you can always put a different Cingular SIM to a Cingular-locked D807.

You just can't put, say, a T-Mobile or a Vodafone SIM in the D807 until it's no longer SIM-locked -- and the SIM-unlock code is what the OP and the others were asking for, which is particular to each handset.

I went through the procedure and it goes (with some shortcuts like this):
    1. Put a T-Mobile SIM into D807
    2. "Wrong SIM" or something message comes up
    3. Perform some voodoo on the phone (note: the voodoo is the same for all D807, regardless of the IMEI)
    4. SIM is now recognized

On the surface, the phone is now unlocked as the T-Mobile SIM works. You can switch between the Cingular SIM and the T-Mobile SIM all you want. But when you try to put AT&T Wireless SIM in, the "Wrong SIM" message comes up again. If you repeat the voodoo steps, the AT&T Wireless SIM will work from that point on, but the T-Mobile SIM will be forgotten. The one thing I wasn't able to check is once I make a T-Mobile SIM "right" whether that makes just that particular one right or any T-Mobile SIM right.

Hi. I know this is a bit off topic, but I've just recieved a t629 from a friend but he doesn't know his unlock password because he hasn't used it for so long. I was just wondering how I go about reseting the memory, if that's possible, and if you can send me some links or something please.

Thank you for any help you can provide,
    Andrew

Have him take it to his service provider, they can reset it for him.
