the voice and data plans for the iphone are still unreleased...even internally... there has been lots of speculation on it... I personally agree that the 39.99 data connect will be it

I'm fairly certain it would be PDA Connect due to amount of data being transferred. The phone has a YouTube option built into it so I would think that Smart Phone Connect wouldn't work.

Or they may surprise everyone and make a plan just for the iPhone

Re: ATT Unlimited Family Talk Text Message Deal..

First off you have to have 5 lines..I do.. NO you do not get picture, video, or IM. It is simply TEXT for 29.99. I spoke to several obviously uninformed reps at ATT before I switched my family. Making sure to ask that the family unlimited was to have media... they assured me it is an all inclusive in the plan. So.. I changed everyone from their individual text plans to the family unlimited. WRONG MOVE !! Suddenly everyone stared getting messages saying they had a message and if they went to the att web address posted they could see it. I called ATT to find out what the problem was. They informed me that the new family unlimited plan I had was text only and I needed internet access for media and that would be an additional 5.00 per phone that wanted picture messaging... OR.. I could let each user go on a pay per use. I asked what does that run.. and was informed there is no way to know. Could range from 1 cent to several dollars per picture. AS SOON AS MY CONTRACT IS UP>>> I AM OFF ATT. They do drop calls.. and the customer service ball.. way too often.

I will disagree with you on this, you do NOT need 5 lines to get this & it Does include MMS, Video & IM.

I have this on my plan with 5 lines & have been using it heavily between my 2 daughters & myself & we do not have a data plan on each line.
The only time you will get charged for MMS & Video is if you go over 300 kb on them, otherwise it's a regular SMS count only.

I have sent numerous MMS along with SMS & have not been charged unless it's been over 300 kb which is rare. Last month I had 4,900 + messages & at least 100 were MMS. I only used 18kb for the month & that was from 1 MMS I sent.

Disagree all you like. I am simply relaying all that actually transpired over the last week when I changed my current family ATT media plans to joined family 29.99 text unlimited. I was told we must have 5 active phones. Then again, I was told it was all inclusive, yet suddenly none of us got MMS. After several reps and techs.. they informed me of my need to purchase internet to use MMS. Glad it works for you. I strongly suggest everyone dig deep before change or adding anything.. then again, I did and the plan was still not honored as represent to ME.

In my family, one has 3 lines with AT&T and has the unlimited family Text messageing plan. Ifi was you, I would call back again on Monday and see if that CS rep will know better.

I second this, the only thing that has to be active is the Medianet settings for you to send & recieve MMS.
I had a co-worker that after he went to this Unlimited SMS plan with 2 lines, couldn't send or recieve MMS, he called after I checked his settings & when they added the sms plan, they turned off his MediaNet, once the activated it again, he was able to send & recieve MMS.

    Call back on Monday.

you see the system that when you get an MMS and they send you a notification text message is an old system and newer phones have the MMS sent right to the phones............i would think that to access that website on your phones to view the pic.........MEdiaNet would have to be used

Usually when you get an SMS telling you that a MMS was sent you need to login either with MediaNet/mMode or a regular computer, you don't need to login thru MediaNet or mMode to view the picture.

It would be nice to know if the OP is on an old AT&T Wireless, Cingular or the new AT&T (the last 2 being the same anyhow) to see if there is something else involved here. To me the way he stated they all needed MediaNet active say's he's using Orange.
Also if the MediaNet is turned off they will not get MMS even through the phone.

if you received a Picture Message on the old Blue system you received and SMS with a website in it that you had to go to and that used data......which is why MMS is "not included"............the new system sends them vie GPRS right to the phones

haha...the $29.99 ft msg deal. yah. ever since att took over, we've had problems texting - we can text each other, and send to any one, but we can't receive from any one except cing/att. so, to "remedy" the issue, tech support said to go with the family msg plan. this will be my 5th month with this issue, and nobody knows how to fix it. they'll remove the feature, put it back on, and it'll work for a couple weeks. then, it'll stop working again. we've changed the text message port #. nope. couldn't do anything after that. i'd say, go with verizon. i'm paying $200/mo for what? i can get s**t at a farm for free.
