Hello, I'll try to be brief and make sense, lol but won't be easy cause its complicated. Phone in question s Motorola Razr V3m My sister passed away earlier this year. She owned the Razr, service through Verizon was cancelled a month or two after she passed. My mother received a refund from Verizon, she may have even sent a death certificate as she had to do for many other things. This beautiful phone has been sitting next to her computer idle all this time. I am a total cell phone novice, so the other day I took the phone home to check it out. Found out what type of phone - Razr v3m, features, how amazing it can do all these things! I was even able to charge it using my pc and updated software from Motorola via the web! Very Cool. My problem is do not want to use verizon for a service provider. Once I charged the phone and opened it, it says verizon as I knew it would from reading. Even showed me the phone number, they have been notified she has passed so this bothers me. It was my sister's old phone number, the account we cancelled. Anyhow, I watched the hack videos on youtube and read about hacking, don't really understand too much but I see how you can change things, etc. There was no lock on this phone or anything and I know about the 000000 code. I won't have a problem if I know what steps to do, I can do them, just not sure what to do. I need a phone for emergency only ... on verizon website I could probably do that but they want you to buy a phone - I don't see a way around that. I don't trust them at all and I know my sister has already paid for the damn phone many times over, they charged her a fortune for all the things she had. My question to all you out there is this: Can I use this wonderful phone through a service like Tracfone where I can just buy a phone card as I need it? If so, I need to know the language to use to ask questions or search because I'm spinning my wheels with it. I see there is no sim card in it, I watched a video and learned how other phones have them, not this one though. Tried to search but didn't find anything .but I'm not sure I'm searching on the right terms. Surely someone in ths wide world has had a similar situation, why throw away the phone - why should I have to buy a new one when my sister had paid through the nose for what she had - she was handicapped to make it worse! I went into Walmart for help first, the guy asked what kind of Motorola but I didn't know at the time, he said I could sell it but I do not want to sell my sister's cell phone. I'd rather keep it in a drawer than do that. Thank you very much for any info or advice as to what I can do if anything. Isn't there a way around Verizon? I just want to use a phone card, emergencies, I'm not a phone talker (but I do like to type, lol). Even a link would be very helpful, I'm just never sure what to do. P.S. If Verizon dare try to bill my 84 yr old mother cause I turned on the phone they will need to call the cops cause I will be down to the closest office to raise holy hell, I kid you not !!!!!!!
You could probably do Page Plus prepaid. See the forum here and the FAQ here. Links to the dealers are in the FAQ. People in the forum have been praising Cellular 360 lately Page Plus now has web access to account information, refills etc. You don't have to hunt down a physical store to refill the phone. They're also in the process of adding MMS and data service, although it's a bit pricey. I have a former Amp'd Mobile V3m that I ported to PagePlus and it works fine. With an ex-Verizon phone it should be easy, if there's no ESN problems. Tracfone you definitely won't be able to do with a non-Trac phone.
Thank you so much for the info. I will be checking it out today. I really appreciate it. Hope you have a great day!
Again, thank you I went with PP, Ugly Eric. Verizon did not want to let the phone or potential customer go. I got emails (they must have gotten my email from Motorola website when I updated my software) and they tried to give me a new phone number, They tried very hard to make me a verizon customer. There must be others like myself who have situations like this, someone passing away. I hope this will help others like me. This morning fiddling with the cell phone I saw the greeting my sister had typed into the razr, it says "Make Each Day Count" Like she's sending me a message. Anyhow, thanks for being so helpful.
