Alright my friends I want some suggestions I am wanting to get a new tv I would like a 42 inch I think this would be a good size. I dont want a plasma but would like LCD or DLP. SO what are some good choices and good deals if you know of any??
Hey Ryan. Hopefully I can provide some pointers for you. What is your budget that you are looking to spend? Do you want a "name brand" set or generic? Generic, such as Vizio, are cheaper and most of the time provide close to the same quality as higher end sets. My family and I personally have a Samsung 40" LCD HDTV. From personal experience, I would say Samsung is the best set if you want a "name brand." We did careful research when we bought our HDTV, and Samsung looked the best. Be careful when you go look at these at stores, since they usually either have an HD dvd, HDTV channel on, or something else to show the best possible picture. They do not show regular SD channels on it. Also, they usually have the lights in the store right on the TV’s. Ask a sales person or manager if they turn the lights off over the set or set(s) you are looking at. If they can't, then have someone that comes with you try to "block" the glare of the light so you can see what it really looks like. One thing to consider is the connections on the tv. Try to get a set with at least 2 S-video inputs, 2 composite A/V inputs, 2 HDMI inputs, and 2 component A/V inputs so when you are hooking up your dvr, vcr, dvd players, etc. you will not run out of inputs. One last thing to consider when buying HDTV's is the contrast ratio. The higher it is, the more depth and quality the TV picture will have. As for prices of HDTV's, they are generally cheaper than they were a few years ago. Also, I believe the latest technology for HDTV's is 1080p. As for finding the best deals, sometimes Costco or Sam's Club (if you belong to them) have real good deals. Other times, Best Buy, Circuit City, etc. also have good deals. These two stores (at least I think Circuit City does) also let you price match, so if you buy a set at Best Buy and it is cheaper at Circuit City within either 14 or 30 days (can't remember which), then they will refund you the difference plus something like 10% for your trouble. CNET has a well written HDTV buying guide. Here it is: Ultimate TV buying guide - HDTV World - CNET.com Good luck and be sure to let us know the outcome.
I know you don't want one, but plasmas are awesome. I have a 42" panasonic, and a friend just yesteday picked up the new panasonic 1080i?. The HD signals on Panasonics are incredible. Everyone I know, I mean everyone had to have their samsungs repaired, and their was a six month backorder on the parts.
Wirelessly posted (Palm Treo 700wx [Sprint]: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows CE; PPC; 240x240) Opera 8.65 [en]) That's weird. Our HDTV has had no problems whatsoever. What type of tv did your friends have and where did they buy it from?
I have a refurbished Vizio 42" plasma and I wuv it. The only btch is only one HDMI port, but if you have an AV receiver then no worries!! For $700 you can't beat it.
About November 2005 from best buy/ circuit city in NJ. All of the boards went on everyone I know of. Samsung said it was a known issue and the part was on 6 months backorder. This is in the Union, NJ area.
What model were the tv's? LCD or Plasma? We have had our Samsung 40" LCD HDTV for close to 3 years, and we have not had one single problem with it.
It could be that the plasma's aren't made as well as the LCD's. We have had our LCD for a while and have not had a single problem.
