I have a Verizon V3M. How do I turn off the music when I turn on and off the phone? I want it to be silent.

I have a different Moto than you do, but I haven't found a way to do it - other than the startup and shut down tones don't play when the phone is set to a "silent" profile.

Not a great solution, but on my phone the "smart key" allows you to quickly change between profiles, so you could change to the "silent" profile right before shutting your phone off.

I have alltel's motorola V3m, This is what i did to turn mine off, except it didnt work for me b/c alltel has that file blocked and i cant do anything with it. I tried it through bitpim.

I dont know how familiar you are with files but i'm going to give you a quick run through on how to do it.

Make sure you have all the drivers you need for your phone to connect to the pc.

    Open BitPim
    connect to your phone
    go to filesystem
then on mine it was the motorola folder
    then audio
    then a file called i believe ui_start_mp_

Theres a how to on it here in the forums i'm sure some of the regs will point it out like Cincyball.

I wish there was a way for me to get my sound off too, there may be away around my locked file, I even tried to just overwrite it but it pops up a message saying its locked.

The Verizon v3m's startup/shutdown sounds are actually in a folder u can access with BitPim. They are in.../motorola/system/ Look for two files named ui_start_dn_mono.mp_ and ui_start_up_mono.mp_, these are the two files that need to be replaced to change the sounds.

Once u find them, right clikc and save to your computer to back them up in case u need them. Then, create your own silent mp3 file. Go back into BitPim, go to those two files, and right click and hit overwrite. Browse your computer for you silent mp3, and select it. It will then write your silent mp3 over the factory sound, and there you go.

Now u can do this with the Alltel f/w as well, but the files are in different spots as u know, which cant be accessed with BitPim. You can howeverr use P2Kcommander, to extract the files. Create your own silent mp3. But this time u must RENAME it exactly as it is on the phone. Once done, go into p2kcommander and copy it to the location on the phone, and it will replace the existing one, and voila...silent startup without havig to set it to silent each time.

So the only ui file i have is ui_start_dn_mono.mp_
do i rename it to ui_start_dn_mono.mp_

    or

    ui_start_dn_mono.mp3

Nevermind it worked. I renamed it exactly the same mp_

u have both, but you have foudn the shutDOWN file. And u found that in the /motorola/system/ folder using BitPim i assume? If u are using BitPim, SAVE the file first, and then u are going to OVERWRITE the file on the phone, so u dont have to name your REPLACEMENT silent mp3 anything specific. Becasue BitPim will leave the file on your phone, it will just put the silent mp3 on there.

In P2Kcommander, u need to RENAME it to match b/c u are ADDING the file to the phone, so it needs to match what is already on there.

    no i'm using p2k commander v3

    its under P2k:/a/motorola/system/ui_start_dn_mono.mp_

So i think its start and shutdown file, 2 in 1.

    EDIT:

no your right. in the shared audio part there is start_up_mono.mp_

Haha, your secret is safe with me.

You can do the same with your startup pics, in regards to changing them. They are labled as customer_opening.gif and customer_closing.gif located in /motorola/shared/picture. You can save them to your comp as a backup. Find or create your own gif image sized at 176x220 , and rename it to match, and load it onto your phone to replace the stock ones. Here is a site with TONNNNNS of startup/shutdown animations, wallpapers, etc -> http://www.motox.info/showthread.php?t=5952

I have attached a pic of my file system to show which ones I deleted safely.
The only 3 other files u couldnt see that are still on my phone (Below Red Sox.jpg) are "requested.gif", "space.gif", and "unavailable.gif". I dont know if all of those others can or cannot be deleted, but since they dont shpw up in the picture folder while looking in the phone at your pics, i wouldnt worry about them. As a hint, if there is a pic in your pic folder , but u dont want it to show up on your phone, u can go into the attributes of that pic (in p2kcommander), and select the box that says "hidden, not shown in phone apps", that way it stays on ur phone, but u wont see it when flippping thru ur pics"

Anyways, good work, glad its working for you.

yea what would be really cool is if you can create a folder and have certain pics in it, and have it password encrypted hehehehe for those good pictures you take. :)

Haha, yea, just store them on the tf card, and leave the default location as the phone memory, so if anyone browses into your pic folder, they will see what is stored on the phones memory, and they would need to know how to change storage devices to see what is on the card...so thats a decent deterrant. I use that process for some videos :browani:

not that i'm aware of re-read his post.

you can use bitpim and you dont need to hack anything.
I would suggest p2k commander version 3. lots of people including myself have issues with version 4.

Yea, BitPim works right outta the box with Verizon V3m.

However, the Verizon V3m needs MSU or PST running to use p2kcommander, just like it needs it for p2kseem.

The Alltel v3m can run p2kcommander/p2kseem on its own, which is nice.

I cannot get any P2k software to NOT freeze up when connecting to my Razr V3c from Alltel...

Anyway my real issue...I have successfully over written the ui_start_dn_mono.mp_ so I don't get the shut down greeting anymore, BUT the ui_start_up_mono.mp_ is locked according to BitPim...how can I unlock this file?

    Thanks!

What program are you running prior to starting P2Kcommander? You cannot run it on it's own. When you do get it running, you can go to the a/motorola/shared/audio folder and upload a file named EXACTLY as ui_start_up_mono.mp_ and it will overwrite that file. BitPim is different in that you can upload ANY file name by just overwriting the file. But to get started, which program are you running prior to starting P2Kcommander?

    Cincy, thanks for the reply.

For starters, I started PST 7.2.3 first, minimized it, and then tried a few versions of P2K i had downloaded. all freeze.

I started PST via the shortcut that was on my desktop that the installer created.

When I changed (via bitpim) the shutdown mp_ i backed up the old one, deleted the original off the phone, renamed the silent.mp3 to the exact name the original had and then dragged and drop.

are you saying (if i'm reading your post correctly) I should be able to rename my silent.mp3 to the *exact* name the startup sound uses and then use the overwrite command via bitpim to get rid of the write protected startup sound?

Thank you in advance, I greatly appreciate it.

I also read the wiki from howard forums about reflashing verizon phones to alltel's firmware...what's the bit deal with alltel's firmware vs verizon? I don't get it. maybe it's because I already have an alltel v3c & v3m with the same firmware everyone is flashing verizon phones too. (is there a post or faq that would answer this newb question) :loony:

    Again, thank you in advance!

Yea, PST should have been fine. When PST is connected, are u sure it found your phone? You could also try MSU.

In BitPim, you should leave the file on the phone, and just right click and overwrite. It will bring up a browse box, and u can select the file with whatever name. Now u cannot do this with your startup file b/c that folder is locked. So we need to use P2Kcommander to access this file. The prob with P2K is that you are actually putting the mp3 ONTO the phone, so the filename MUST match, so it will overwrite. That is why BitPim is nice, since it updates on the fly. Im surprised you didnt run into probs in deleting the actual file then uploading a new file with the same name in BitPim. This would be the process for P2Kcommander.

As for flashing, the Verizon firmware is very restricting. We cannot use skins, nery crippled bluetooth. The menu system is terrible. The menu's are sloooow. The battery doesnt last. The UI is an unchangeable red color. SO we flash to Alltel to gain the Motorola UI. It gives us the bluetooth file transfer between phones. But you wouldnt have to worry about it.

    Cincy,

I am fairly certain that PST saw the phone. It would sit at a 'finding phone' screen if I don't have it plugged in. however the buttons for 'get data' from phone, etc on the tool bar are grayed out.

I am going to try it today on a fresh load of XP using just the tools i downloaded specifically from the Wiki at howard forums...maybe P2K will work there. I have a testing PC at work that i can blow away at any time. I'll post back hopefully later today with results.

and thank you for the clarification on the verizon UI...i am passing that info on to a friend who is looking into a new razr with his verizon service.

    Cincy,

Thank you for your help! I followed this howto exactly:

    http://wiki.howardforums.com/index.php/Motorola_V3c_Tutorial:_Flashing_to_Alltel_User_Interface

on a PC I have not connected my razr v3c on yet.

I installed PST, then had it read the phone book, then left it open & minimized, started P2K commander 2.3.6 downloaded the startup sound, made a copy if it, renamed my silence.mp3 to the startup sound file name, copied it up to the phone and now no more annoying startup sound! Yahoo!!! I am very happy. Thank you for your help!

No problem. Glad you have it the way you want. Yea, sometimes u need to do a process with PST for it to put your phone into the proper mode to use p2k programs.
