You say the SIM doesn't activate the phone, but I have put my SIM into a different phone and it pulls up all of my information and calls to my number go to that phone. If the phone is used that you get from Ebay, can you assume that it has been activated?

What sort of codes are you referring to when switching back and forth between a GAIT phone and a GSM-Only phone? I have never had to enter anything in when switching the SIM from phone to phone...

O my bad. I thought you ment when you initially activate the phone. Like when you buy a new one and have to setup a new plan with a new number (unless u used LNP) and started a new account. But yea with the SIM your account number and stuff is on there so you can switch the SIM from phone to phone. It just has to download the additional info to the phone for it to work.

Now to add the GAIT option you must put that SIM into the Nokia 6340i (GAIT phone) and call CSR and have them add the GAIT option into your account. If the SIM is not in the Nokia 6340i then this process may not work.

Ok, nevermind about codes. My friend switched his phone and had to enter a whole bunch of codes. I may be diffrent with diffrent brands of phones.

Yep...you can move from phone to phone. The interoperability on your account shouldn't matter. It is there in case the GAIT phone wants to register on TDMA.

I have a quick question myself...

Is Cingular thinking or planning to have PTT?

I know SPCS and Nextel have the largest PTT network and customer base (and since they merging then it should be enourmous)

Then there is Alltel and Verizon which have decent PTT networks and barley any customers.

I also heard T-Mobile was going to have PTT network wide one day. Is this true.

And if Cingular gets it I bet alot of people would join that have Cingular cellular service. One of my friends asked a Cingular Corp. Store Manager if they were going to have PTT. And the manager said Cingular is planning on having PTT up and running around 2007 - 2008 or sooner.

Great, thanks for the info. I am going to start looking around on Ebay to try to find one of the Nokia phones. This definitely sounds like something I would like to have!

    Perfect, thanks for clarifying that!

This GAIT sounds like a pretty sweet gig. I wonder why more people don't use it? I can see myself only needing it once every 3 months or so, but it would be nice to have when I do make those occasional trips out of GSM coverage!

You got that right! I can't believe there aren't roaming fees for using the TDMA or AMPS systems! That is so great!

Any idea if they are ever going to stop offering this feature? I know they don't advertise it, but you say they allow people to sign up for it. I bet there will be a time when they don't support this in the future.
