Hi, I have been trying to get a BB 8900. That isn't to hard, T-Mobile will sell it to me for $150.00. The hard part is using an existing number that I have had on my family account. I am willing to add another line to my account with a new phone number and just transfer the sim card from the existing line to the new BB. But, I understand this is not possible do as the data on the sim cards are not compatible. Is this a correct statement on behalf of T-Mobile? The phone with the number I want to keep is not up for an upgrade for about 18 months. The only work around I can figure to just to call forward the existing phone number to the new BB. Can anybody comment on this? The only reason I want to keep this particular number is for my children (they have it memorized) and elderly parents and God forbid I have to retrain them with a new phone number. Thanks in advance for any help or ideas. Greg318
Assuming you are going to keep that new, additional, line, you should be able to transfer the required information. You are correct, the provisioning on the SIM cards for BB and non-BB line is different, I am not sure why you were told it wasn't possible to make the switch.
The hard part now is that as of 06/03/09 if you purchase the phone for line A that line has to carry the data plan for the life of the contract...so you can just switch sim cards, but you're going to end up with Line B and adding data to it that you'll be using, and paying for data on Line A that is not being used, the only real work around is Line A has to carry one of the following features for life of contract either 14.99 Unl Msg bundle, or 24.99 data, or 34.99 data. So unless you have another device that you want to use data or msging to use for Line A it makes more financial sense to just pay the higher price for the upgrade through your original line (line B).
Thanks for your replies. Let me tell you what I have right now. Family plan (1600 minutes) w/ my favorite Unlimited text messages Tmobile @ Home Service (which I just switch to. I had Vonage for home phone and had my number ported over to TMobile nice credit of $130.00 plus free router.) Total of 4 lines 1. BB 8220 Flip (That is the one I use and I have the data package on that) 2.Nokia 6301 3.Nokia 6133 4. Is the @home line. The 6133 is the one I want to update or keep the same phone number to use with the BB8900. We have had that phone number for over 5 years and is a real easy number to remember. Just happens to be the year I graduated High School! Again I don't mind adding a 5th with the 2 year contract. And I won't mind if I had agreed to another 2 year contract on the 6133. But I want the BB8900 to have the phone number which is associated with the Nokia 6133 and put a new number on the Nokia 6133. That shouldn't be so hard? Again Thanks in advance for your responses Greg
