Hi, I'm trying to make my own ringtones for my Motorola Razr V3c using two seperate approaches right now. Any information regarding either would be really helpful. Thanks! Approach 1: The first one is trimming an mp3, saving it as a .mid file, then emailing it to my phone via XXXXXXXXXX@vzwpix.com. This has worked once already, but it was a little while ago. Now when I send the file, my phone is changing the .mid file into a .qcp file which sounds like crap. Is there any way I can prevent this from happening?? Approach 2: The other way I'm trying is through syncing my phone to my PC and using Windows Media Player 11. I've been successful adding music to my phone this way, but the file stays in 'My Music' and I can't move them to 'Get Tunes & Tones' and so I can't use them as ringtones. Is there any FREE software out there that will allow me to do this, or any other way to move the file?? Again, ANY help would be appreciated. Thanks!
I had already answered this for you: http://forums.wirelessadvisor.com/450971-post5.html But as a refresher: Approach 1: No way to avoid the .qcp file change. Approach 2: explained in my response in the link above.
Yeah, thanks cincyball, but I was hoping I might get a response from someone with more of a 'can do' attitude. I have already used Approach 1 successfully. My ringtone is saved as a .mid file and has the same icon as all the standard ringtones. And it sounds great. So there certainly is a way to avoid the .qcp file change, I just don't know what it is. As for Approach 2, there is a lot of software out there. And the fact that you were wrong about Approach 1 leads me to believe that you don't know exactly what you're talking about and that there's still I chance I'll find something. So thanks for that. If anyone ELSE has any input, I'm all eyes. I thought forums were designed to help people...
You can have ALLLL the can-do attitude u want, but that isnt going to make a FREE software program come out of no where that will magically solve your problems. I have offered my knowledge, for FREE since last summer...i dont appreciate my "attitude" being insulted. As for your approach 1, you said in another post -> http://forums.wirelessadvisor.com/450946-post2.html that you cannot stop it from changing...and that is true from everything I have read that you cannot stop it from changing... I never said the method doesnt work, so please dont put words in my mouth. I just wasnt too cheap to worry about spending $19.95 on a program to solve my ringtone problems. Until you can FLASH your phone with a cross-carrier firmware...do not question how much I know about the razr. Oh duh!!! Sorry, THAT is the way to do it for free. Go ahead and flash your v3m with Alltel's v3m firmware, and that will enable you to transfer them via bluetooth. You can also use your microSD card as a mass storage device in order to transfer ringtones. But I guess since I dont knowwhat I am talking about, you should find someone else to teach you how. P2Kcommander works too, but its wayyy more trouble than its worth. I effectively resign from WA. Good bye to those who have appreciated my help. Good luck to those who cant see the forest from the trees.
I started this thread because I thought I would be able to get some help making custom ringtones. Instead, I got Borat telling me that something I've already done before successfully can't be done. I'm not putting words in your mouth, just refer to Post #2 where you said "Approach 1: No way to avoid the .qcp file change." Now...maybe you're right about Approach 2. Maybe I do have to shell out some cash for this approach to work. And maybe I will. But, for me, figuring out a way around simply buying and running some software is a challenge that I rather enjoy. But I apologize if I insulted your knowledge of the Motorola Razr. Had I known that I was dealing with a Bronze Senior Member of an internet forum dealing with wireless devices who even knows how to flash his phone with a cross-carrier firmware, I probably would have backed off. Cuz that's some hot sh!t. For real. As for me, I'm gonna go hang out with my friends. Have fun with your telephone.
